Years ago, when I wrote my post about blocking newsletter popups, I was feeling pretty smug because I was finally getting back at all those sites that throw popups at you before you ever get to see the content. In the years since, I’ve noticed some things that I thought I’d talk about as a follow up to that original post.
First, I’m still a very happy guy. Those of you who visit here know that my ultimate pet peeve when it comes to visiting blogs are annoying popups. Turns out turning off javascript blocks a lot of other nasty bits from other types of sites beyond just blogs; I’m not mad in the least! In my last post talking about the invalidation of the 80/20 rule in promoting one’s content on social media, I mentioned seeing a few people on LinkedIn not only violating stated marketing principles of how often one should post but saw them crushing it in the numbers of responses and activity they were getting.

Not one to sit by idly and wonder how they’re doing it, I decided it was time for a little experiment. I’m going to tell you what I decided to do and the reaction I got to all of it. I’ve kind of figured it out, but the results aren’t up to anything I do or what anyone else actually does. I hope that piques your interest. 🙂 Continue reading LinkedIn Posts Experiment; What I Learned…→
I have over 535 articles on this site specifically about blogging. I have nearly 150 videos about blogging as well. I’m not going to say my entire life is about blogging, but I’ll put my general knowledge about blogging with anyone else in the world; yeah, I said that!
Only one of us is a blogger
I just finished a series of videos on the topic of blogging, after I was requested to share tips about it. I’m going to put every one of those videos on this article, and I’m going to give two that I didn’t address in any of those… because I can. I’m not going to promise that I didn’t cover it in any of these 55 blogging tips I wrote back in 2014, but I believe this is new stuff; let’s find out. You’re getting an article, a link to another article and a video; what more could anyone want? This is an updated article that I originally wrote in 2014… that only got one comment from someone who still exists (which I’ve left). It needed to be updated and seen because even more people are talking about writing great concept as a suggestion for getting more visitors. Let’s delve into that for a quick moment.
I found this interesting years ago and still find it interesting now. With all the talk about writing great content that I saw and still see on many blogs, I never see anyone talking about what great content is supposed to be.
I actually wrote a post about what high quality content, was supposed to be back in 2011. The problem with the article is that Google never listed it for some reason; even now it can’t be found, regardless of whether I put it in quotation marks or not. I’m 9th on Duck Duck Go; see why I like them so much. 🙂 Continue reading “Great Content” Redux→
There have been guest posts since I started real blogging over 14 years ago. Back then they actually used to mean something; these days they’re mainly throwaway pieces that don’t actually say anything.
standing up for principles
The same goes for posts where someone’s asked a bunch of experts their opinion on a topic and asks them for 3 things they’d recommend to others. It’s grown a lot since the first posts showed up about 10 years ago but I have the same gripe about most of them. Once again, throwaway pieces that don’t say much of anything. I’ll explain more about this in a minute or two. Continue reading Why I Won’t Share Your Guest Post Or Your Expert Articles→
