On Friday, September 3rd, 2021, my mother passed away at 6:30PM. I was sitting next to her when it happened; just the two of us. Since then I’ve done a video and a different blog post about her. It’s been mentally tough over the last week or so, which included the service by the grave site on the following Thursday.
Mom was often prescient about what might be coming down the line. So was my dad, who left this world 19 years ago on Father’s Day, 2002, at 4:45PM. I’ve thought about him often over the past few weeks, thinking that soon he and Mom would be together again in their way. That’s what brings me to telling this story about a time when both of them were instrumental in getting me to work with something that’s become a major part of my life, both business and personal. I’m often receiving links from someone I know. This time it was to have an opportunity to listen to a webinar that was broadcast earlier in the year if I happened to sign up on a particular website by 11AM the next day. It proposed teaching us how to make 6-figures within 90 days doing online marketing.

My scam meter was up as it usually is, but it was free so I figured what the hey. I might pick up a thing or two that I hadn’t yet tried before, right? So, around 4 minutes before 11 I went to the site, put in my first name and email address (throwaway email address), and waited for the link to the webinar, which came about 5 minutes later. I’m not counting this as a blog post… although it is. I’m counting this as a test post because I’ve made a change in RSS email feed for those who are presently subscribing via Feedburner. That’s the preamble; now the short article… for someone like me. 🙂
Follow.it
During the period of time last week when I published my article on online privacy, I was working with a company called Follow.it, trying to move the email subscription service from Feedburner to them. That’s because as of July 1st Google was putting Feedburner in maintenance mode, which meant that anyone who tried subscribing after that date would never receive anything. It also probably meant that at some point later in the year Google would shut it down permanently; they have a pattern. Continue reading Taking A Break… Sort Of…→
As someone who blocks as much stuff as possible without my authority, it seems like asking about our right to privacy online is the strangest question. We all say we want to be able to disseminate whatever we want to on sites like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, yet still retain a bit of anonymity here and there. I actually understand some of that, as Mitch isn’t my birth name, and I tell almost no one what my middle name is. If one decided to really dig deep on the internet, I’m sure they’d find both answers.
He’s not getting any privacy
When I first got on the internet back in December 1995, I didn’t understand what most of it meant. The first service I signed up for was AOL. Like many people, I got that disk in the mail, loaded it onto my computer, and the rest was history. So was my privacy, because pretty quickly I started getting all sorts of email from companies that contracted with AOL for my email address. And things took off from there. Let me get this out of the way; I don’t like Rupert Murdoch. I don’t like almost anything he stands for or anything he has to say. I believe he’s pretty much a greedy man who likes stirring up controversy because he knows it sells. I believe he skews the news, not because he actually believes any of it, but because it makes money. I’m not against anyone making money, ever; I don’t have to like how some people make it, though.
This is king in my city lol
However, if there’s one thing I am is fair when I have to be. Of all things, Murdoch once said something that I’ve touted in my own way for years, though my thoughts have been a little more limited on the subject. That subject is content. Continue reading Content Is An Electronic Emperor?→
