I See What You Did With Your Comment & You Did It Badly

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know how much I complain about people not commenting on blogs as much as they used to. I actually understand because there’s so much going on in social media where you can write a short line or just “like” something without having to take much time to write something legitimate.

Through the years I’ve said that people who leave good comments sometimes encourages others to visit their blogs or websites. If you write about the specific topic and you’re also know something about it, you enhance the quality of your comment, which always helps. You Can’t Just Be “Comfortable”

Years ago I wrote an article asking Why Is Everyone Busting On A-Listers. At that time it seemed that many people kind of missed my point. That was okay because some people thought I’d missed their point. I’m going to take that on first.

I didn’t miss the point about A-listers and how many of them don’t respond to comments on their blogs anymore. I get it, and I don’t like it anymore than they did. No matter how big someone gets, I feel they should respond to at least some of the people who comment on their blogs. As most of you know, I’m big on bloggers not only approving comments when they’re moderating but also commenting on them, and it doesn’t matter whether or not they’re A-listers. I’ll give those who receive lots of comments a break because, truthfully, some comments are pretty lousy, but many of them deserve to be responded to.

Blog Maintenance On Old Blog Posts, Part 2

One of the blessings of writing a blog for a lot of years is that you prove your dedication to your craft. It also gives you a lot of content that you can share or rewrite or use to boost your newer posts via internal linking; not enough people remember that.

One of the two curses of having a blog for so long is that sometimes you have no clue what time has done to an article. I’m not talking about articles written on topics or items that no longer exist; I’m talking about things you might have put into an article that you’re not a part of any longer. This is another part of blog maintenance you need to consider.

Why Don’t More People Comment On Blogs?

On Twitter a couple of months ago, a local business consultant I know said “no one comments on blogs anymore,” to which I responded “I commented on yours yesterday.” He came back with “no one comments on blogs anymore but you.” In my mind I disagreed… but had to think about it for a bit.

I get comments on almost every blog post I put out. On this blog in 2019, only one of my posts (talking about promotion no less) didn’t get a comment. But I have had a couple of posts that only got one or two comments; that’s disappointing. Still, I did have one post this year that got 22 comments; I’ll take what I can get.
