I once read a blog post that was supposed to be about leadership. It irked me so much that I had to write a blog post about it on my business blog refuting it. The topic was about whether it was better to be the best or even try to be the best, versus being unique when it came to getting business and leading others.
The way I’m wired, I believe it’s imperative that people always try to be the best they can be, and to be the best overall if possible. Being unique… heck, everyone’s unique when you think about it.
There are times where being unique can help, such as when you’re trying to catch someone’s eye if everyone happens to be very good. Unique can help one get sales whether they’re good or not, but being good, or trying to be the best, keeps people coming back for more. Continue reading Are Unique And Being The Best Antithetical?→
If you’re a regular visitor to this blog, you’ll notice that something’s changed. Actually, a lot of something has changed, and it all starts with a new theme.
First, let’s talk about the “why”. I loved my other theme, but in reality it was the 3rd theme on this site. However, that last theme was my favorite; I’ve had it since the middle of 2009. I used it for every blog I’ve owned since then, and the best part of it was I knew how to alter the code to get it to look however I wanted it to look. I could change colors, fonts, links… pretty much everything. In my eyes it was perfect. Continue reading 11 Years With My Blog Theme; All Good Things Come To An End…→
Some years ago I wrote an article titled The Art Of Storytelling, where I talked about some of the stories I’ve written on this blog as it related to the topic of writing. I greatly believe that for almost every article you come up with unless it’s a tutorial, being able to add stories to it not only makes it more compelling and easy to understand, but it’s keep your audience engaged until the very end.
However, this article isn’t about writing; it’s about you, your person, your life, and what you’re ready to tell the world so that you can get what you want from it and from others. That sounds a big daunting and a little bit narcissistic, doesn’t it? It’s not; let’s talk about it. Continue reading What’s Your Story And How Can You Tell It?→
For once this is going to be a relatively short article. It’s possible comments could be long or many; we’ll see how this goes.
colorful family
First, a preamble. Back in 2012, I posted my first article on a series of posts I was going to put out on every Friday called Black Web Friday. This came as a result of seeing a post on Problogger where this woman put out a list of the top 50 bloggers in the world… and there wasn’t a single black person on her list. When I commented on it she said she didn’t know any, and almost all the other comments were directed at me saying she didn’t have to know any because it was her list. I wrote back saying she didn’t say it was her list specifically, and not knowing any black bloggers said more about her than me. The first time I wrote about gravatars, also known as avatars, was back in 2008. I wrote specifically about them in 2009, and again in 2013. Then, over the course of 7 years I’ve mentioned them from time to time, but I haven’t written specifically about them.
fake me as an example
Last month I wrote an article talking about 9 ways to recognize spam. One of my points was that most spammers don’t have avatars/gravatars. Someone asked me about it and indicated he didn’t know how to get one. So, I decided to not only tell people how to do it, but republish some of the reasons why an avatar should be used if you’re going to comment on other blogs.
