LinkedIn; Posts Not Articles, Part Two

I’ve done a good bit of experimenting on LinkedIn over the past few years. In 2015 I wrote an article titled Writing Articles That Gain Attention On LinkedIn, after I’d started posting full articles there. Some were brand new; some were edited pieces of older blog posts, mainly from my business blog.

It started out well, and I thought it was the panacea I was looking for to help me breakthrough the noise, to draw more attention to what I could do for my particular business audience. Then… it wasn’t anymore. I went from thousands of views to ten’s of views, and I decided it was over when the last article I put there got 21 views; I do better than that leaving everything on my blogs.

The Danger Of Being Yourself In Social Media Spaces

We’re in a very polarizing state in the American union these days. Covid, race relations, the upcoming presidential election… you name it, add the word “ugly” to it and that’s where we are.

Social media seems to amplify that for one main reason; people in general can be stupid. I see it a lot more on LinkedIn than on either Facebook or Twitter. It’s probably because we have more control over what we see or don’t see on those two platforms as opposed to LinkedIn… but it hasn’t always been that way.

Social Media Won’t Solve All Your Problems

The world of sales and networking is changing, and a major part of it is happening via social media. I could say ‘internet’, but truth be told, the internet on its own really didn’t change much except to allow people the opportunity to have a presence online.

Blogging is part of social media, and it was one of the first mediums where creators learned that they could connect with a lot of people and make money at the same time. There are quite a few bloggers who became millionaires before the rest of us got into it.

Why Has LinkedIn Become Facebook?

In June 2015 I wrote a post talking about how these days it’s harder to do business on LinkedIn than it used to be. I mentioned how people who seemingly reach out saying they want to work with you actually want you to work for them… for free! I talked about how I rarely get anyone reaching out to me to do business for them where I’ll get paid, and I mentioned how people will reach out to ask me for advice; I don’t mind that last part.

I also wrote a post some time ago about social media mistakes people make, which included mentioning how it seems that a lot of people these days are acting like trolls on LinkedIn, a site that’s supposed to be for business purposes. I can’t understand how those people think someone will see some of the things they say and think “Ooohhh, I can’t wait to work with this person”; wouldn’t be me!

Why People Are Mad At You For Your Social Media Willful Ignorance

Over the last week or so, I keep hearing about this concept of free speech and how everyone has a right to say whatever they want without being castigated for it. I’ve written about freedom of speech for many years, and I decided to share my thoughts about it here; stick with me for a few minutes.

this looks great; challenge me!

In the United States, everyone has the right to express their opinion. What everyone doesn’t have a right to do is state their opinion and not have someone else disagree with it if they choose to. It’s the reason why so many people can love the movie Frozen (count me in) and a few can say they think it’s overrated. It’s the reason why so many young girls love Justin Bieber to the end of the world and others hate his guts (I don’t have an opinion either way).
