Black Web Friday… On A Monday… After 5 1/2 Years

This is something totally different from what’s become my norm, but not all that different from my past on this blog.

Back in the first half of 2012, I started a series of posts called Black Web Friday. For 19 consecutive weeks, I highlighted black websites and blogs, anywhere from 3 to 5 each week, until I finally shut it down on May 25th, 2012.

How To Tweet And Thrive On Twitter By Lisa Sicard – Book Review

Unlike a lot of people who receive free books, I tend to read them, even when I feel like I’m proficient on the topic at hand. In this case, the book is How To Tweet And Thrive On Twitter by Lisa Sicard of Inspire To Thrive, and I earned a free copy by winning it during a Twitter Chat that Lisa holds weekly… although I don’t remember the time (I’m sure she’ll let me know lol). It’s about Twitter and it gives a lot of information, most of which I already knew. However, I learned a few things I didn’t know, as well as read it in a format I wasn’t familiar with, so I felt it deserved being reviewed; here we go.

7 Recommendations On How To Stop Baiting Yourself Into Commenting On Social Media

Yesterday I witnessed the piling on of someone who commented on a Facebook post by a friend of mine. It started out innocently enough… kind of, as my friend posted a graphic relating to politics. She included a one-line statement, it was pretty innocuous, but left itself open to interpretation.

That’s diet soda!

A couple people responded in agreement with what the image showed. But… wait for it… pretty soon someone else responded who wasn’t totally feeling what everyone else was saying. It wasn’t that she disagreed with the image as much as the “implication” that it meant “all” people like her… which no one had actually said.

Feel Free To Block, Mute Or Delete People In Your Social Media Circles

Back last November after the elections I seriously gave thought to the idea that I was going to kill all my social media accounts and go on my merry way. I’m not gonna lie; I was depressed after the elections but I started getting depressed and anxious before them as well. I knew what was coming; the Spidey senses are almost never wrong, as much as I sometimes wish they were.

peaceful baby

In the end I decided that I was going to stick around because there’s a lot of good things I want to see and participate in, along with the fact that I love writing on my own blogs and sharing them with others. If I’d closed down all my accounts I could still write, but writing without promotion is a prescription for failure (unless you’re pretty famous or extremely pretty lol).

Don’t Reach Out To Influencers “Just Because…”

I read a lot of blogs and articles on the topic of blogging. I would, since I write about it all the time. Something I keep coming across these days is this topic of “influencers” and how to reach out to them to help you gain traction and influence yourself.

I’ve never been one to go out of my way to connect with someone I felt was influential. Though I’m connected to a few people who could be said to be influential, there’s only one person I’m connected to who I followed first, on Twitter; all the others followed me before I decided to follow them back.
