New Facebook Changes; This Is Better?

Yesterday evening I signed onto Facebook to notice that there have been changes to the format once again. Please, someone tell me why they keep changing things there that don’t need changing.

The most immediate change I noticed was moving the options for doing things at the top of the site to the right rather than keeping them to the left. Since we here in America read left to right, I can’t say I was happy with that.

Next I noticed that the little image thing we used to see at the bottom left that took us to applications we wanted is now gone. It hasn’t been replaced, which is irritating as well. Now, to get into any applications, you always have to go back to the home page, where you have a menu to the left that I haven’t quite figured out yet how to modify so I can see the apps that I go to the most often.

Also, I tried to tag a couple of photos last night, which used to be a very easy process, and had problems doing that as well. First it wanted me to add a new application, which I turned down. Then when I was finally in the images section, I would select the tag tool, but whenever I clicked on the picture it would leave. Man, stuff just didn’t want to work with me last night.

All in all, I’m drastically not impressed with any of the new changes, and can’t wait until someone figures out how to change things through UserScripts.org, which allows you to change things up on the Firefox browser, which I’ve talked about before. I’m never against change, but one hopes it makes things easier and better, not more convoluted.

What are your thoughts about it? By the way, you’re probably going to see Valentines Day products up until the day before Valentines Day, unless I write about something that has a specific product. I hope no one forgets about it; next Sunday folks!

  1. Crap, Valentine’s Day is next weekend? 😉

I finally got used to the last change on FB when this happened. I’m not sure how I feel about it just yet, but so far I don’t hate it.

    1. I’ve already started working on the look, Anne, but unfortunately, none of the scripts yet have addressed all of the changes.

  2. You just hate change Mitch. Didn’t you read what it said when you logged on, it’s to make things easier for us 😀

Oh well, at least now I know your on I sent a friend request. I don’t go on that often, but I may play around with it some when I have nothing better to do.

  3. I don’t like facebook anyway, and now I really don’t like it any better. They have changed it so many times, it ridiculous.

The stuff is scattered everywhere too. The Chat box is down in the right. All your buttons for going anywhere are on top, and then if someone comments your stuff, it shows down in the left.

It’s yucky. But, YAY! I’m glad you are not a fan of it. Everyone I know seems to like it. Facebook scares me. =D

    1. In general, Facebook is okay, but I’ve written enough things about it to make people think I hate it overall, which I don’t. But this round of changes is irksome to me.

    1. I thought so. You should show it to your husband; yu might end up with a very nice gift for Valentines Day. 😉

      1. Nah, I have enough rings and I wouldn’t want anything that costly for a commercialized holiday. I’m a simple gal.

  4. Hi

I hate the majority of Facebook changes too – they never seem to make things better and often counter-intuitive too. The App icon being removed is bizarre imo – especially as it provides easy access to their Ad Manager – crazy!

So many things on Facebook seem to break all the time and if I see another “Oops, something went wrong, why don’t you try again” message, I think I’ll punch my screen!

Bored of Facebook now for sure.

    1. That’s funny Daniel. Those are the apps, which Facebook tells you aren’t under their control. I always wonder about that, because if they’re not under they’re control, why would they allow them in the first place?

Yeah, I hated that App thing initially because it looked like it was in the way, then I realized how easy it was to get places. Now it’s gone; sigh.

  5. My facebook looks the same as it has for the last couple of months, and even then it seemed to of changed a while after I heard everyone complain about the changes

    1. JC, if it looks the same then you haven’t been paying attention because this last move was quite drastic.

      1. I was paying attention. My main/personal account has not been changed. I logged into my second account just now to see that it has been changed to the new system. Logged into my main account, still the same as it has been.

      2. It is weird. I hope my personal one does not change, and wish my second one had not.

Do you think profiles are on different servers and they do a roll out over the different servers one at a time? Or something to that effect, or is my account just the odd one out on that?

      3. I’ve never thought about it before JC, but that wouldn’t make a lot of sense because it would mean there’s a bunch of folks like you who have read about changes that didn’t happen. Only some of those folks would have said something by now and things would have changed already. But I guess it’s possible.

      4. Well facebook caught up with me and changed my profile. I’m so tempted to ditch fb all together. I don’t use it for marketing yet and the games I play on there are just time wasters and I know it.

The only thing that keeps me on there is keeping up with my friends. They all live an hour away and I rarely go into town these days as it’s become too painful to make the drive. So it’s the only way I know about the parties and all when I do want to go.

I might just switch to a mobile version of the site and cut it down to the basics.

      5. That might be the way to go, JC. You know, it’s too bad that no one has come up with an application like they do with Twitter so you could do Facebook stuff without having to go to the site.

  6. You just sound thick, facebook is almost becoming a good site now they’ve been making changes. Learn to adapt, mutate and survive.
Or die with teh dinosaurs 😉

  7. Looks like I deleted my account in good time. 😉

    1. What I’m not happy abotu is you now have to keep going back to the home page before you can get to any applications, which you didn’t have to do before.

  8. I didn’t quite like what I see today but I might get used to it. Launching the apps from the left nav bar may be good. But i don’t like those icons next to the logo. Also, the current layout (as per my setting) seems to have a lot of whitespaces
.-= Ajith Edassery´s last blog ..Making Money Online in India gets tougher =-.

    1. True Ajith. I’m not sure what they thought they were improving, except the feeds are a bit larger. I wouldn’t mind the apps to the left if they were on every page, no matter what you were looking at.
