CEOs Should Blog And Why You Should Too

Thomas Quinn was the former CEO of Community General Hospital in Syracuse, NY. For 4 years he had a personal blog where he talked about community developments his hospital was a part of, highlighted positive things employees and physicians did, and talked about philosophical and health care issues such as compassion. I always enjoyed reading it, especially since it was a local hospital, and I liked knowing what was going on.

When he was needed the most was the final year he was CEO, which was also the final year that the hospital was a standalone, before it merged with University Hospital. While many hospital executives might have tried to keep the news quiet for fear of what the community might think about them, Quinn was front and center in talking about what was going on with the merger, with the unions, about the employees and how they were trying to save all jobs, and of course with his personal thoughts about why the hospital needed to move in this direction.

Stolen Blog Posts – What Should You Do?

Well, this is interesting. A couple of weeks ago I was checking on Google to see how my business blog was faring for certain keywords. I was shocked to find that my name and what I did was fairly prominent… but on other websites.

stolen blog content

they stole my content!

I often kid (kind of) about Google hating me and my blogs, but it never occurred to me that they actually love my stuff on other people’s blogs… that they’re not writing. Frankly, this could explain a lot of what’s going on with my traffic, especially if it’s being siphoned off to other places. What am I talking about? Let me share some examples.

Make Blogging And Social Media Be What You Want It To Be

You might not know this about me, but I used to lift weights. I wasn’t very good at it, and never got my arms the way I was shooting for, although I did it religiously for almost 2 years. I did develop my shoulders and upper back muscles though and my pecs looked pretty good; that’s the best I could do, no matter how hard I worked at it.

I’ve always had the strongest legs. Even before I was weight lifting regularly, I got on a universal leg press machine and was able to push it up to 500 lb when I was 15 years old. Later on, when I was doing weight lifting for real, I regularly pushed 500 lb, and every once in awhile would take a gamble and push up to 750 lb. Yes, my legs were strong.

Black Web Friday… On A Monday… After 5 1/2 Years

This is something totally different from what’s become my norm, but not all that different from my past on this blog.

Back in the first half of 2012, I started a series of posts called Black Web Friday. For 19 consecutive weeks, I highlighted black websites and blogs, anywhere from 3 to 5 each week, until I finally shut it down on May 25th, 2012.

The State Of Blogging – A Stream Of Unconsciousness

This is a different type of post. I may link to other posts and articles to share what they have to say but overall this is my thoughts and beliefs about the current state of blogging. It’s not a rant… well, not really anyway. It’s more of a manifest statement, a stream of unconsciousness that’s either true or not for everyone else… but definitely true from where I’m sitting.

state of blogging

First, let’s talk about why I think I’m qualified to write about such a thing. By some standards I can’t even call myself a professional blogger. I don’t write from the perspective of someone who’s made a lot of money from blogging. I certainly haven’t worked on making blogging a career.
