Make Money Blogging? I Have No Idea… Maybe…

We all know there are a lot of blogs out there that promise to teach you how to make money online. You can bet that 99% of them aren’t making anything significant. Sure, there are folks like Pat Flynn who are making tons of money; I believe Donna Merrill‘s probably making livable money… if not more (I’ll let her tell you if she ever sees this lol).

Truth be told, I’m not sure how to make money anymore by blogging. I say “not sure” because at a couple of different points I was making a nice bit of “side money”. I was averaging around $600 a month with this blog and later around $300 a month on my finance blog. Two years ago I was averaging around $250 a month on my medical billing website/blog; now it’s down to $100 every 4 months (curse you Google!). That’s certainly not livable money, but it was great making some extra cash without having to work very hard for it.

9 Ways To Find Blog Topics To Write About

For some reason I thought I’d written a post like this years ago, but the closest I could find was the first post I wrote in a blogging series I put together at the time, back in the days before people started adding images to their posts (which now has one) or even thought about things like copyright (now it’s copywritten) or share buttons. Because that’s the closest I have, and because I want to be helpful, I figure it’s time I put something like this together.

what could you write about this shoe?

With nearly 1,800 articles on this blog and over 5,000 via all my blogs, blogs of others and a host of other things online, I’ve had to rely on my wits to come up with unique ideas all the time on a variety of topics. I’ve rarely had writer’s block (sometimes I’m just not in the mood to write; it happens), and that’s because of the 9 things I’m talking about below.

Are Your Comments Trustworthy?

You know what? I missed my 10th anniversary of blogging on I’m Just Sharing. I wrote my first post on 12/12/07; it was probably the 2nd shortest thing I’ve ever written here. The best post I wrote that month is now on another blog because the topic works better there. The second best post of that first month was about diabetes, and even though it shows up as the 2nd post on this blog it was actually the 8th article I wrote.

trustworthy

Who didn’t trust Mr. T?

Back then I wasn’t sure what I wanted this blog to be about; I only knew that, unless my business blog, I was going to try to make money off it. To that extent, I was marketing a lot of things from Commission Junction that I didn’t know all that much about. I was also dropping general thoughts about my day and things I thought were interesting; nothing like what I write about now.

4 More Blog Maintenance Ideas

It’s time to tackle a familiar theme on this blog but I’m going to touch upon some different types of things… I hope. It’s time to talk about blog maintenance again, which I’ve done twice before.

Humunculus; this guy needs
serious maintenance!

The first time I only talked about broken links. The second time I mainly talked about plugins, which once again included talking about broken links, but I introduced something extra.

This time I’m going to talk about new things while still bringing up an old thing; let’s start with that one just to get it out of the way.

I’ve Always Been Authentic On This Blog

On LinkedIn yesterday I wrote an article titled The Word For 2018 Is Authenticity. I wrote it and alluded to an article I read that gave me inspiration leading into the new year; if you want to see the link, check out that article (why make it easy for you since it’s on a different site? lol).

authenticity
Authentic Me

The reason it’s important for me is because of my main consulting career. For those who don’t know, I’m a health care finance consultant as well as a leadership/diversity speaker and educator. If you look over there to the left you’ll notice that two of the books I promote are my missives on leadership.
