Buy Me A Coffee/Pizza

Whether you’re a new or regular visitor, unless you’re looking at the mobile speed version of this article or my blog overall, you’ll probably notice the little hovering ball at the bottom right. If you need to see it bigger, check this out:

Buy Me A Coffee/Pizza

This is the main logo for a content subscription site called Buy Me A Coffee. What it allows you to do is put a link you create on their website, then share it in other places. If people like your content and want to show their love financially, all they have to do is click on the logo and get transported to your profile page where they’ll have different dollar amounts they can select from to show their appreciation. Isn’t that cool?

I can’t remember who I heard it from first, but I opened my profile about 6 weeks ago. However, because I was still recovering from shoulder surgery, I wasn’t in the mood to do anything with it at the time.

The general thing to do is first create a link which starts with “buymeacoffee”, then follow that with whatever you want to show. Mine shows as “/mitchmitchell” because I don’t have an alias to associate myself with; I’m Mitch Mitchell in multiple places. 🙂

After that, you’re taken to a profile page, where you can put in an image, write something describing what it is you do and how you do it as a content creator, and at that point you’ve pretty much done all you have to do.

Well… not quite. There’s a bunch of other things you can do either before you start posting some content or afterwards. You can decide whether you want to create a membership link, where people can subscribe and pay you monthly or yearly for whatever price you give them. You can decide to offer gifts or things like ebooks that your visitors can buy. You can do what I did, which was to create a widget, which is why you see that ball over to the right. You can also create a button which you can paste wherever you please.

Then you start posting… something. In my profile I mentioned that I write 3 blogs of mine, create videos on two channels, write stories both true and fictional. Then I started sharing a few things, just to see if I’d gather any interest. So far I have two followers, though one of those people I know well and I think the other is the page default.

How do you share your content? It’s up to you. I started out sharing a story I wrote on this blog about 10 years ago that almost no one knows about anymore. I posted the entire thing instead of just a link. The next thing I posted was a link to the article I posted here before this one. Days later I posted a link to one of my YouTube videos which was a story of going to an Amy Grant concert on the same day I performed at my first wedding. Then earlier yesterday afternoon I posted a story I’d written for a book I was going to work on with someone else, who decided she wasn’t up for the job. lol

The way I see it, I want people to see the diversity of the types of things I can write. If I get enough interest, then I’ll create a membership page and hopefully get a few people to sign up. One of the things the site recommends is you post a goal you want to reach by using the site. I posted that when I reach $500 in donations I’m giving one of my supporters $50; yeah, I’m bribing people. lol

By the way, supporters are what they call the people who send you a payment. If you’re so inclined, you can post content that only they and the people who pay for membership can see.

So far I’ve seen people who write content like mine, people who write motivational content, people who share videos, people who share podcasts… as long as it’s content the site’s happy to help you get paid for it. You can paid via Paypal or Stripe; you can use a credit card if you don’t have either of those services and whichever of the two above you select will process the payment. Just so you know, BMC takes a small percentage of what you get paid, but there’s nothing wrong with that if you’re actually earning something.

Some people make a lot of money using Buy Me A Coffee. In case you’re wondering, I changed mine to pizza because I don’t drink coffee. There are other options you can select from if you don’t want to use either one of those.

I’m ending this by embedding the video I learned a lot from by a lady named Taryn, who’s both a user of the site and does some part time work for them. It can’t hurt to check it out… and if you’re happy with what I’ve written, you can always buy me a piece of pizza by clicking on that ball! 😉

  1. I think I have heard of Buy Me A Coffee in the past but wasn’t sure what it was. It’s a very interesting concept but I doubt anyone would subscribe/pay to anything of mine lol.

    1. You never know if there’s an audience for something that you might be the only authority on. Besides, you’ve got nothing to lose if you decide to try it out except a little bit of time.

  2. I just stumbled upon this post. Great idea to publicize your endeavours on Buy Me A Coffee! Sadly, although I set this up as well, no support, so far. I did buy you a pizza, as I recall. 😉 ~HINT, HINT~

    1. You did; thanks! lol I thought I reciprocated; obviously I didn’t. I’ll have to rectify that soon. Of course, what I hope happens one of these days is that someone who I don’t already know buys me some pizza. 😀

      1. Still Zero $ in my account. Just teasing… Yes, it would be nice to have some recognition from strangers, but that’s even harder to get than good comments on the blog!
