A week and a half ago, on a Friday afternoon at 1:55 my computer crashed 5 minutes before I was supposed to go on a conference call. I needed to get my computer working because I had a file I needed to access so I could conduct the call. I tried to reboot my computer but it didn’t work. Luckily the conference call went well even though I didn’t have the file in front of me. Mental preparation works; unfortunately the computer did not.
had to do a chair reset also
My computer, which is running Windows 10, went on a reboot loop of something called automatic repair. It did that loop pretty much for 24 hours, which was awful. At one point I figured out how to get into the repair area and tried to load a previous system restore point. However, somewhere along the line my computer had erased all my restore points, which I didn’t think was possible. This began the battle and research and eventually led me to doing a full reset near the end of those 24 hours. Continue reading 5 Things You Need To Know If You Have To Do A Windows 10 Reset→
It’s amazing how much there is to maintaining one’s blog, especially after blogging on one site a lot of years. You can imagine how many times I come into this blog and my business blog and start tinkering with things. Some of them are minor; some are hard. Some are just time consuming.
I’ve written a few times on the premise of blog maintenance. I started in 2012 talking about broken links maintenance, which is relatively easy if you use a plugin to do the work for you. In 2016 I gave 6 blog maintenance tips to help people take care of a few more things, while mentioning broken links again (it had been 4 years after all). In January of this year I gave you 4 more blog maintenance ideas, while linking back to the other two articles. You’d think 10 maintenance ideas would be enough, wouldn’t you? You’d be surprised. A couple of years ago on a different blog I wrote an article talking about re-purposing blog posts. That post was more about internal linking by making sure to take old blog posts and add those links to newer posts to help enhance the SEO benefits of new content.
In this instance the concept of re-purposing content is more than talking about blogging. Most people have something that they’ve written previously somewhere on their computers. What they forget is that much of what was already written would make great blog posts or articles to put on their websites. If you’re looking for a lot of content and don’t have the time to write something new, going back through old files could provide you with what you need. Almost 10 years ago, when it was a popular thing to do, I introduced a new website based on a lot of articles I’d written on the topic of smoking. I’d written the articles for someone else who’d asked for 20 of them, but when he decided he only wanted 7, I kept them all for myself and create the website.
Mom’s promoting Happy!
I introduced the website on this blog and some of the visitors here went to check it out. During the discussions that took place afterwards, one of the commenters asked if I had ever used any of the products I was promoting on that site to help people stop smoking, to which I had to say “no”; I’ve never smoked. Another commenter stated she thought the topic of promoting something one hadn’t used might be an interesting topic to write on. I’m going to tackle it now… all these years later! 🙂 Continue reading Marketing Vs. Promoting→
I’m not going to lie; I really wanted to make good money online. I was going to add “through whatever means necessary”, but obviously that’s proven not to be quite true. I also realize that I’ve limited my online potential in many ways, mainly because I’m not ready for the consequences of taking certain actions.
Often when one thinks about how big they want to be online, most believe they want to make millions. That’s a laudable goal, but the truth is that most of us are set up to make a few hundred if we’re lucky; I was there for a short period of my life but those days are long gone.
