You’re Not Even Trying To Leave Good Comments

I’ll own up to this one fact; I’m a different kind of person when it comes to comments I’ll accept on my blogs. Like almost everyone else, I love getting comments on the articles I write. I also hate spam, which is easy to pick out. Where I might differ is that I’ll also get rid of comments that don’t add anything to the conversation, even if I decide it’s not spam.

Last week I wrote an article discussing the topic of social media sites and suppression of different topics here and there. It actually got quite a few comments, but if you check out the article and look at the comments you’ll only see 3 of them there, along with my responses. Why?

Do Social Media Sites Suppress Free Speech?

Let’s get this out of the way; if social media is suppressing freedom of speech, it’s because they’re allowed to do it. As much as the orange man rages that his words are being blocked, the truth is that we’re all given free access to these social media sites. Are Unique And Being The Best Antithetical?

I once read a blog post that was supposed to be about leadership. It irked me so much that I had to write a blog post about it on my business blog refuting it. The topic was about whether it was better to be the best or even try to be the best, versus being unique when it came to getting business and leading others.

How Not To Reach Out To Someone On LinkedIn

“Hi Mitch. I’d like to connect with you on LinkedIn. We share similar services. Can we schedule a phone call…”

I get messages like this all the time. The wording might be slightly different but it’s pretty much always the same. A variation on this is when someone says they’ve seen my profile and wants to consult with me about something and also want to speak to me on the phone.

What’s the problem you might be asking? If you’re on LinkedIn you already know. If not, the problem is that either these people didn’t actually read my profile, didn’t understand it or are only reaching out because I posted something that got a lot of views.

The Danger Of Being Yourself In Social Media Spaces

We’re in a very polarizing state in the American union these days. Covid, race relations, the upcoming presidential election… you name it, add the word “ugly” to it and that’s where we are.

Social media seems to amplify that for one main reason; people in general can be stupid. I see it a lot more on LinkedIn than on either Facebook or Twitter. It’s probably because we have more control over what we see or don’t see on those two platforms as opposed to LinkedIn… but it hasn’t always been that way.
