For all the years I’ve been writing about blogging and for all the articles on this blog that are about blogging (more than 25% are specifically about blogging), I almost never get any email from anyone asking questions that I’ve either covered or not covered. That means everyone who’s online must already know these things… right?

Maybe not. A few weeks ago I got an email from someone who’s just started blogging, something that still happens on occasion. I’ve done a lot of videos on the subject, which are on my YouTube channel (look over there on the right), but they don’t get a lot of juice over there; that’s why I still blog about blogging… an interesting conundrum, isn’t it?

Twitter is my favorite social media platform after blogging. Believe it or not, I actually try to talk to every one of the 4,500 plus people following me every once in a while, though not as many talk back. I’m also back under 1,000, which I reached for the first time in 2014, and back around 860; that’s what happens when society changes and you learn more about some of the people you’re following and decide it’s time to remove them from your online life. With just over 187,000 tweets over the course of almost 14 years, I like to think I know a thing or two about Twitter.
There are a lot of people who don’t quite get the nuances of Twitter. Many of them are following way more people than I am, and have a lot more people following them. But is they effective? Are they enjoying Twitter as much as I do? Are they communicating or just putting out a lot of noise? Is there a balance between promoting their content, sharing other people’s content, and actually talking to people from time to time? Some are, some aren’t, and some are just irritating… you know it’s true.

I hate spam passionately; I know I’m not the only one. I’ve used lots of tools over the years, trying to eradicate spam, but this blog’s been around a long time, and though it’s not regular visitor positive as it once was, it’s very popular to spammers and scammers.

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about affiliate marketing, something I’ve been a part of for at least 15 years by now, and wondering “what the heck am I doing wrong?” I’ve made few affiliate sales over the years, but at least I can say I’ve made some. I guess that puts me ahead of a few people, but so many others are really rocking the industry. Then, after thinking about it some more, I realized one very interesting fact; I know nothing about affiliate marketing!

That’s a very disconcerting thing to come to, and though it’s probably over the top, truth be told I’ve been looking for answers for a long time. I’ve read a lot of stuff; I’ve tried a lot of stuff. All you need to do is look over there to the right and you’ll see I’ve been doing something for all these years, but with only one sale in all of 2021 I think we can all say I’m an affiliate marketing failure.
