Sunday Question – Why Do You Blog?

Before I get into the meat of this question, I want to share two things that are somewhat related. Last week I did another online interview with my friend Beverly Mahone, and I’ll be doing my second and last interview with her on this show tonight. She’s moving on to a real radio show, and hopefully I’ll be able to get on there some day, even if it’ll only be geared towards a North Carolina audience. You can check out the show, which starts at 7PM tonight, by clicking here. Also, you can download last week’s show here, and of course I’ll be sharing this weekend’s show probably some time next week.

The question of the day is why do you blog? It should be an easy question to answer for some of you, a much harder question for the rest of you. It could be easy because you might have planned what you were hoping to do and gotten out there and did it, and you’re still doing it. It could be hard because your original motivation might have been one thing and it changed, or you thought it would be one thing and it morphed into something entirely different.

For me, I started blogging years ago because I was trying to figure out a way to get the word out about my business. So I asked a friend of mine to create a subdomain for me (I know how to do it now) so I could add my blog to my business website, and Mitch’s Blog was born.

Then I wanted a blog where I could write on whatever I wanted to write on, as well as have the opportunity to make some money, and this blog was born. Finally, I saw on the Warrior Forum one day that someone was selling a couple of blogs, and I decided I wanted to buy the one on finance because I knew I wanted to know more about it, and how better to learn about it than have to research and write on it. Thus, Top Finance Blog was born.

Anyway, those are the reasons why I started blogging. Why do I continue blogging? One, for my business, two because I actually like communicating, three because I’m hoping to spread my brand, which is me, and four, because I’ve met so many nice people and want to meet more of you.

And there you go; pretty easy for me to respond. Then again, I knew how I’d answer, since I came up with the question. What about you? Oh yeah, remember, Mother’s Day is coming up!

  • I wrote a post on why I write which explained my motivation.

The reason I blog is because it lets me meet people from all over the world. People like you who are interesting..

  • I started to blog because I had some spare time and the 2fuzz” was that you can earn money from it. So seriously, I started to blog for money while at the same time letting people know how I do it. Throughout the process, I have met great people online and learned so much that it keeps me motivated to continue. Today, this has not changed, although my approach is to share with the community my experiences and leave it up to them to take action.

    • That’s what I try to do, DiTesco. I hear about things, test some things, then share. And of course every once in awhile I like to put something out there to make people think.

  • I first started blogging for SEO reasons as I heard that Google liked changing content, so Well Blog Me was born and it was linked to the website I was trying to gain a better PR for.

Then I changed tack when I found that blogging could actually make you money, but now I do it mainly because I’ve fallen in love with it. Not as satisfying as the wife, but pretty damn close 😀

  • Funny, I was creating a post today that correlates with that.

My number one reson- I love to write and I love to share. If I can help someone else (or just bring them a laugh) it makes me happy.

I also WAH, so it’s a great “non-invasive” way to get my stuff out there, and show people you can work at home and achieve financial and time freedom as well.

BTW- great metting you at the meeting last week. Let me know when you want me to guest blog!

    • Good stuff, Carolee; and you can spell, we’ll just call it a typo lol I like the way you describe it, non-invasive, very medical term.

    • Rummuser, I bet you do, but you also like meeting and talking to new people. Don’t kid me. 🙂

my very first blogging attempt coincided with my very first e-commerce site attempt.

I was told to combine them for traffic, which is absolutely true.

Then the e-commerce site fell since it was apparently a scam from the start…long old story.

I flubbed through several blogging ventures until I hit my passion, which I now do. 🙂

    • Thanks for sharing, Dennis. It’s amazing how many of us learned about blogging and how it could potentially help our businesses.

I started blogging as a means to make some cash to pay off music school tuition since my folks weren’t keen on my doing music @ all. Now I’m mostly driven by the fun of it. It kinda relaxes me like a hobby 😉

    • That’s an interesting way to put it, Chuks, because I actually know what you mean. When I write a blog post, at least on this blog, I feel happy and elated. My other blogs allow me a different type of outlet, but I have the most fun with this one.
