Sunday Question: Which Friend Are You?

Changing up for a minute on what I hope will be a great Sunday, but I’m hedging my bets.

Have you ever thought about which friend you are to most of your friends? For instance, are you the pretty friend, the funny friend, the movie friend… which are you? You can’t be the best friend for everyone, or maybe you can; is anyone that friend?

To tell you the truth, in my dreams I was always the good looking friend, the one who, when I walked into a room, women gasped because of my presence, Unfortunately, that one wasn’t happening; that was relegated to my friend Felipe. Not often you’ll see me write something like this, but he was a pretty man that women just fawned over. He had the body for it, the smile for it, and he was also a great guy. There was no hating him, and I used to smile each week out at the dance club because she he walked in, women’s heads turned, and guys who had a rap going suddenly noticed the women they were talking to weren’t paying attention anymore. And he always made the “guy” rounds first before letting everything else take place as it was going to; he was just that kind of guy.

I think I’ve changed as time has gone on. In high school, I was the “play” friend, the guy who was always ready to play any sport you could think of. In college, I was the protecting friend, the one who made sure everyone was safe and would step in and take care of problems as needed. These days I’m the smart friend, the one who probably knows at least a little bit of something about lots of things, current or not.

So, which friend are you, or that you believe you are? If you need some time to think, watch this little video, Muppets again, about friends:

oh man, at first I though this was going to be a tv show quiz. I was all ready …

I’d like to think that I’m a Chandler, but truth be told I’m probably a bit of a Ross too.

On a serious note though, I really don’t know exactly what kind of friend I am … maybe the optimistic friend … the one who always tries to find the “silver lining” … yea, that’s probably me.

You know Todd, I thought about that after I’d written the post, the TV show, and decided to move on from there. lol

I like the “optimistic” friend concept; certainly don’t have enough of those, do we?

Hi Mitch, I’ve always been pretty much a loner. I always have one good friend and that’s about it. I like being by myself, even though my family is a houseful now. I can hardly comprehend the feeling of being lonely. I spent eleven years as an over the road truck driver and loved the road. Then came the internet. Now’s my chance to interact with as many people as I want and power down the computer when I want to escape. Online I can be popular without all the drama that comes with real life friendships. Life is good now, both online and off.

That’s interesting, Brian. Sounds like you and Sire are cut from the same cloth. Me, I’m a loner most of the time, but I like hanging with one or two other people when I’m with my wife. And every 2 or 3 years we’ll throw a party and I have a blast.

I seem to attract a variety of people who want to let off steam or cry on my shoulders or use me as a sounding board. I think that this is because I am a good listener. Does that qualify me for a “listening friend”?

Still Dennis, just because you don’t hang out with all that many people anymore, it should still be an easily answered question as to how you perceive yourself as a friend to others based on the few you talk to. At least it seems easy to me lol

Im pretty much a loner too, Im the quite mysterious friend that will always lend you his ears and give you a hand. By the way which version do you like the most I really like Joe cockers version of !With a little help from my friends! The Muppet version is really funny and The Beatles version is great

I’m a Muppets fan, so that would always be my favorite, with Joe Cocker’s version second. Yeah, it may seem like I’m not giving proper love to the Beatles who created it, but they still get residuals so they won’t mind so much.
