Sunday Question – What Do You Hope To Accomplish In The Last 3rd Of The Year?
Posted by Mitch Mitchell on Aug 22, 2010
Man, that’s a tough question, isn’t it? Even though there’s one more week to go, the reality is that we’re 2/3rds of the way through this year. There’s so much more to do, but we’ve done so much already, haven’t we?

When I took a look back to my goals for 2010, I can’t say that my progress towards them is all that pretty. However, it’s not a total loss like it was for 2009. So far, I have reached one of my goals, that being to get at least 3,000 real visitors a month coming to this blog. At the time I’m writing this, I’m averaging 3,200 visitors a month, which is pretty neat. And my Alexa rank did get to 106,000, so I was pretty close before it started going back up a little bit. But I still have a shot at that one.
I’ve also taken on some things I hadn’t planned on for the year as well, so it all balances out at some point. Still, I’d have to say that overall I haven’t quite accomplished what I was hoping for, though on 4 of the 5 I’ve improved over the beginning of the year.
What do I hope to accomplish by the end of the year? I hope to take my social media marketing workshop to another city. How I’m going to do that is still up in the air, but it’s a goal. I want to hit another milestone figure, that being $300 in one month online. I think my highest month was around $225, so it’s not totally out of range. Yeah, my goal for the year was much loftier, but at this juncture I just want to show progress. I have ideas; no I’m not sharing them. But if something succeeds, you’ll be the first to know.
I’m backing off my goal of 500 RSS subscribers for the moment and I’m going to shoot for 200. That might be attainable, as I was at 161 one day last week, and as of January the highest I’d ever had was 126. It will take a lot of factors to happen, but one can hope.
I also want to continue working on growing my influence locally, since, at least for now, I think I’m covered online. I think that if I can do better locally, my financial standing would drastically improve, and I’d feel more free to take time off to go to Barnes & Noble here and there just to have some time to myself out of the house. I work a lot; rather, I sit here at the computer doing a lot.
So there’s my bit of sharing; what would you like to share?

Over here via ur comment on Sire’s site. Like him I am an Aussie so it is now Monday morning here and the sun is shining. I have set up a blog on all things lavender and my goal for the next part of the year is to grow my visitor base which is happening thanks to the blogging community and introduce product reviews to eventually begin selling lavender products on my site. I also want to produce a fortnightly newsletter which hopefully will get off the ground soon. Along with learning heaps about blogging I hope to be able to connect with lots of lovely ppl in the blogosphere which is happening already.

I just want to outlive my 93 year old father for who I am the primary care giver. Nothing more, nothing less.
Rather mundane ambition what?

Taking care of your father is an outstanding ambition. I applaud you for doing it. I believe that taking care of our family is one of the most important things we can do.
All the best,
JD

I’ve been thinking about what I want to do with the rest of this year and I’m not entirely clear on my priorities, yet. (Other than getting healthier, which remains my top priority.)
I think I’ll be using much more video on my sites and I’m slowly learning how to edit it and present the image I want.
Currently, I’m editing a short video of a fashion show held at a local clothing store and I’m working on another one that presents a local diner. I’ve shot footage for a drug store and a coffee house.
I have many photos and videos taken around town and I’m working out how I want to present them to promote Murphy and the people who live here.
It has taken some time to learn all of this, but I’m enjoying it.
I’m not thinking too much right now about monetization, but the increased use of video on my primary sites will bring in new clients, I’m sure.
Of course, it all remains to be seen. It’s easy to say what we’re going to do, but much harder to show what we have done. (grin)
Act on your dream!

You also mentioned a few times on your blog about getting out of the house more. This is something that I have been dealing with and also another one of my goals.
I like to try and bring my laptop to different coffee shops with wi-fi and do my work there a few times a week. It gets me out of the house and gives me the chance to meet new people and be more productive. In fact I even met a client randomly at Starbucks. Coffee shops serve more than just coffee too…

As for the income part, man, I hear you on that one. The idea, however, is to find something you can do that people will pay you monthly for. I have, but I need more of those clients before I’ll feel content.

I want my Alternative Energy blog up and running with the money bolt ones for starters.
Before that I want my Internet Marketing Niche side of the business organised in a far more coherent way so my main blog is pure content, which is linked to a proper IM product review/promotion blog and is supported by several mini sites and blogs and hubs etc linking into them every time an article is produced.
Now I have mapped out the second part of the plan into a mind map and boy is there some work involved
