For us, education means nothing if people don't have great jobs to go to where they can earn good money to more than just feed their families. The same goes for having to drive cars more than 60 years old. We see Castro as someone who could have reached out and done more for his people, but instead chose to hold firm to a personal belief that hurt Cuba overall. That's the problem with despots; they care more about being "right" than doing the right thing. Still, he was big news in the past decade, which is why I put him here. I thank you for your views. Batista would have driven them into misery. Fine, some things just don't add up like earning in national currency and having to buy from the shops in foreign currency but then you can't go wrong with things such as free education and medical care. I was opportuned to study Medicine in Cuba along with 99 other Nigerians on scholarship from September 2001 to July 2007 and I must confess that the country has developed WAY FURTHER than my sick country Nigeria. A country blessed with little BUT working wonders everyday. Nigeria has got a massive amount of resources being wasted by some ugly fat dumb africans who call themselves our leaders. The current President is sick as hell with Renal Insufficiency and refuses to step down. Men, I don't want to rant so let's leave it at that. I only wanted to defend Castro a bit. When I was culling through all the historical references to come up with the list, my mind just picked out stuff that seemed very big and eliminated everything else. For instance, Katrina was a big deal, but did it garner as much attention at the earthquake in Indonesia? Fidel Castro almost didn't make my list, but do we really believe that there will ever be another dictator who will last 50 years? So, he's historical news. It was fun; I like fun.
