Hi Klaus,

First, I know I have two follow up comment boxes. One of them doesn't work, but I'm not sure which one, and I don't know how to get rid of one of them, so I'm kind of stuck with it. :-)

Second, you're right, there is a lot of self promotion, but I don't put that in the realm of blather. I will say, though, that one hopes to see something different coming from those folks every once in awhile; I'm kind of keen on checking that out.

I see it mostly as a way to spam and do self promotion. I'm following a few hundred people or so and all I see are links to their own websites or to other articles that they like.

Spam I'm not seeing from those I follow (as I'll unfollow spammers immediately), but I have a lot of spammers following me.

I don't know what Twitter could do to make it a better place, but I think FriendFeed is on to something. Exciting to see what will happen to FriendFeed now that Facebook bought them.

(PS: You have two "Notify me of follow up comments via e-mail" checkboxes below the comment area)

I wonder what the original intentions really were, Dziennikarstwo. I mean, they set it up to accept links, even setting up the program to shorten links. They had to know everyone who came wouldn't just be talking to each other. But I still enjoy Twitter, especially once I discovered TweetDeck.

I agree that Twitter has changed into something really strange. I feel a little bit tricked by the Twitter developers. It supposed to be a social networking site, right? And what it is? Surely not a social site, it is web marketers site. Everyone tweets, follows, leave comments with links etc. I don't mind using those tools to improve traffic on sb site, but let's just say it out loud. Twitter is not social marketing website, and probably never will be. Maybe the intentions were good, but now I can't even look at that page.

You know Sire, I just look at the numbers and, well, they just don't add up for what that survey stated. But, as I said, it depends on what one defines as blather. For me, it's just people talking about their day. I don't consider blather all the people who post positive quotes and the like, whereas someone else might.

I just did the math; doesn't mean I'm right, but I think I'm closer than a survey of 300 messages.

I would have thought that babble was way more than 10%, but I ain't going to argue with you because your the one that took the time to check the stats, which tells me you have way too much of it on your hands ;)

I think that's really the lesson, Jake, follow people you think you care about following and just don't get into the rest of it. Much safer that way long term.

Seems like i'm always comparing my JakeCpuNut blog to my more professional niche sites...

but with the Jake Twitter account, I could care less.. I enjoy reading the junk sometimes and will follow who ever and don't really care who follows me.

ON THE OTHER HAND! For my niche sites, I will try and use the twitter search and find people looking for my niche and do my best to have followers and follow those that are related to what I'm doing!
