There’s quite a lot I could say on this subject, but I’ll keep it brewing in my head for the moment. (What a curious image that would make…!)

Mitch, I have started bookmarking posts of yours that I want to read and comment on, so expect a spate of comments from me in the next few days!!

And actually, I’m going to bookmark your comment too as it’s given me food for thought. The art issue is very important to me for a variety of reasons and is something I frequently think about from many different angles.

You just might have to do that, Val. As you see with my newer posts, I have images, and I try to have them match up in some fashion with the topic.

As for Imagekind, I like highlighting the images, but so far no one has ever purchased anything I’ve posted, like that picture to the left. That’s probably why you see payouts as sporadic; hard getting people to pay for stuff they can use for free in some fashion.

I didn’t know that Imagekind had this referral/percentage thing. Zazzle also does it and I only just, today, posted a request to the site where I have my artwork – Redbubble – asking if they’d have the same thing. It’s not only good for getting more people to see ones artwork but is an incentive to help other artists too.

The only problem I have with some of these sites is that they pay out very infrequently (ie, some are quarterly) and ones sales balance has to reach a minimum amount before they’ll even pay out at all. I hope you read the small print on these sites!! For me, Redbubble (so far) is the more friendly of the art-sites.

By the way, if you do want to use images that are likely to sell, it helps – just with blogging – find images that match your target audience/readership. And that takes quite a bit of analysis! Or at the very least, being able to match up readers with artwork.

I don’t think the thing is all about the free images, Dennis. I think it’s all about the packaging, which includes frames, gift wrapping, etc. After all, not many people are good at framing, although, for folks like you and I, we would probably find something to use if we wanted to hang a big picture of some sort.
