Imagekind – ShareASale

Talk about a different kind of affiliate program. Imagekind, through Share-A Sale, offers an affiliate program where people can purchase images instead of other types of programs. Frankly, I was surprised by it, and I like the idea so much that I’ve signed on as an affiliate, and at some point I’ll be adding a block ad of some kind to my sidebar.

Imagekind allows people to post their images on their site for purchase, and if you, as an affiliate, get people to go to the site, then you get a piece of their commissions for sales of their images. Because the prices vary so drastically on this site, believe it or not, you could make a commission off an image anywhere from $10 to $10,000; yup, that wide a range. I’m just imagining someone purchasing a print of that magnitude and being able to get a piece of that; nice!

You can go through the gallery and select images that you like and market those specific images. For instance, here’s one that I absolutely love, though I’ll probably never make it to France; click on it if you’d like to purchase it:

Of course they offer banner ads like what you see below, but there’s more. By joining this program, there are other programs you can add to the mix. For instance, Random House publishers is someone you can market for, along with Electronic Boutique, Rugman, Ace Hardware, and about a hundred others.

Anyway, this is another affiliate that adds some diversity to the norm of affiliate programs, and I think it will add a new quality to my blog site. At least I hope so.

I’ll give it a shot Mitch, but not for the image aspect as I’m not sure that too many people will pay enough for an image where you can make $10 commission. I’m going to give it a go because of the opportunities offered by those other companies.

I wouldn’t be so sure, Sire. Last week I know someone who purchased $500 worth of images that she liked. Imagine if you had even one buyer who went in and purchased that much at one time; I’d take that. But the other stuff works just as well.

To be fair Mitch, I made that comment before I saw the quality of the prints for sale. So I reckon my reputation of never being wrong stand ;)

Hah, I finally caught you on one, my man! LOL Isn’t that a great picture, though? Now, I’m not so sure it would look that nice as a 125×125 image, but maybe as a 250×250 if I put it on the right side,…

Yeah, you got me, and I thought you were hitting the sack. Wassup, you lose your way to the bedroom?

Yeah, I’d lost my way to the bedroom, but I eventually found it. Didn’t stay long, but I at least finally went.

So tell me, exactly how much sleep do you get, on average?

These days, between 5 and 6 hours.

That was may a few years back, but I am finding that I need a bit more than that these days.

Mitch Reply:

Heck, it’s not that I don’t need more; I just don’t sleep any longer than that, so I’m often tired. Probably why I sit at the computer so long.

I don’t think the thing is all about the free images, Dennis. I think it’s all about the packaging, which includes frames, gift wrapping, etc. After all, not many people are good at framing, although, for folks like you and I, we would probably find something to use if we wanted to hang a big picture of some sort.

Yep, the nearest woman. LOL

I’m no good at things like that myself. :)

I didn’t know that Imagekind had this referral/percentage thing. Zazzle also does it and I only just, today, posted a request to the site where I have my artwork – Redbubble – asking if they’d have the same thing. It’s not only good for getting more people to see ones artwork but is an incentive to help other artists too.

The only problem I have with some of these sites is that they pay out very infrequently (ie, some are quarterly) and ones sales balance has to reach a minimum amount before they’ll even pay out at all. I hope you read the small print on these sites!! For me, Redbubble (so far) is the more friendly of the art-sites.

By the way, if you do want to use images that are likely to sell, it helps – just with blogging – find images that match your target audience/readership. And that takes quite a bit of analysis! Or at the very least, being able to match up readers with artwork.

Hey, I might have to blog about this sometime!

You just might have to do that, Val. As you see with my newer posts, I have images, and I try to have them match up in some fashion with the topic.

As for Imagekind, I like highlighting the images, but so far no one has ever purchased anything I’ve posted, like that picture to the left. That’s probably why you see payouts as sporadic; hard getting people to pay for stuff they can use for free in some fashion.

There’s quite a lot I could say on this subject, but I’ll keep it brewing in my head for the moment. (What a curious image that would make…!)

Mitch, I have started bookmarking posts of yours that I want to read and comment on, so expect a spate of comments from me in the next few days!!

And actually, I’m going to bookmark your comment too as it’s given me food for thought. The art issue is very important to me for a variety of reasons and is something I frequently think about from many different angles.
