It Takes Guts To Have An Opinion

It’s hard to get mad at people who take the safe route and withhold their true feelings, in their own names, online. After all, sometimes people will say something that others don’t agree with, and no one wants to be derided for their feelings. These days we have the term “cancel culture”, and it sounds scary. People risk losing their jobs, their friends, and being castigated all over social media; I understand.

Often, it seems the people who fear this the least are those with true hate in their hearts, those who could care less about everyone, only themselves and those like them. Those are the folks who believe it’s always better to be your ugliest self up front, then apologize later and say people took what they had to say out of context, or give a false apology as in “I’m sorry if you were offended by…” Yeah, I bet!

Are You Missing The “Social” Part Of Social Media?

Okay, I get it. Twitter and Facebook can be used for business purposes. LinkedIn is supposed to be for business purposes. I know because I use them for business as well.

Social Me In 2021

Not that often, but obviously I do. Every blog post I write shows up on Twitter multiple times. Here and there I share something from one of my blogs in my Facebook blogging group. On LinkedIn I not only share blog posts but some of my business videos; lately they seem to be doing a lot better than before.

Download Your Facebook Information And Be Illuminated!

I’ve been reading about changes Facebook wants to make to Instagram via smartphones. Instead of leaving it alone, they want to merge it with both Messenger and WhatsApp, two apps I’ve never wanted on my phone. I also eliminated Facebook from my phone as soon as I bought it. I’m stuck with Google tracking me (since I’m on Android), but that’s as far as I’m allowing it.

Luckily, some time ago I downloaded all my images from Instagram. I actually did that shortly after my computer crashed back in 2018, but I didn’t do the same from Facebook. I’ve been on the site just over 12 years, and I’ve uploaded lots of pictures there that didn’t originate from Instagram. Many include family members that most of them had never seen. I lost a lot of those images, like from Instagram, in the big crash of 2018. This set me on a journey towards discovery… and the last thing I discovered was stunning! Stick around…

Is It Harassment If Your Stupidity Was Shared With The Public?

We’ve moved into an interesting place as it pertains to social media. With new sites like Parler popping up (I’m not creating an account there), people who feel their voices are being censored are heading there to exhibit their freedom of speech. My opinion is that most of it will be what I consider to be hate speech, based on all I’ve read. No problem in my opinion; let them have their place in the world so they’ll leave my preferred spaces.

Stupid 1

However, some of those folks don’t want to have to go to a place like that. From their perspective, it’s not as much fun as if they exhibit their thoughts against people who don’t want to hear it. So they’re staying on places like Twitter, LinkedIn and of course Facebook. Some of them are saying things like what you see above.

LinkedIn; Posts Not Articles, Part Two

I’ve done a good bit of experimenting on LinkedIn over the past few years. In 2015 I wrote an article titled Writing Articles That Gain Attention On LinkedIn, after I’d started posting full articles there. Some were brand new; some were edited pieces of older blog posts, mainly from my business blog.

business marketing lol

It started out well, and I thought it was the panacea I was looking for to help me breakthrough the noise, to draw more attention to what I could do for my particular business audience. Then… it wasn’t anymore. I went from thousands of views to ten’s of views, and I decided it was over when the last article I put there got 21 views; I do better than that leaving everything on my blogs.
