I’ve been reading about changes Facebook wants to make to Instagram via smartphones. Instead of leaving it alone, they want to merge it with both Messenger and WhatsApp, two apps I’ve never wanted on my phone. I also eliminated Facebook from my phone as soon as I bought it. I’m stuck with Google tracking me (since I’m on Android), but that’s as far as I’m allowing it.

Luckily, some time ago I downloaded all my images from Instagram. I actually did that shortly after my computer crashed back in 2018, but I didn’t do the same from Facebook. I’ve been on the site just over 12 years, and I’ve uploaded lots of pictures there that didn’t originate from Instagram. Many include family members that most of them had never seen. We’ve moved into an interesting place as it pertains to social media. With new sites like Parler popping up (I’m not creating an account there), people who feel their voices are being censored are heading there to exhibit their freedom of speech. My opinion is that most of it will be what I consider to be hate speech, based on all I’ve read. No problem in my opinion; let them have their place in the world so they’ll leave my preferred spaces.
I’ve done a good bit of experimenting on LinkedIn over the past few years. In 2015 I wrote an article titled Writing Articles That Gain Attention On LinkedIn, after I’d started posting full articles there. Some were brand new; some were edited pieces of older blog posts, mainly from my business blog.
We’re in a very polarizing state in the American union these days. Covid, race relations, the upcoming presidential election… you name it, add the word “ugly” to it and that’s where we are.
The world of sales and networking is changing, and a major part of it is happening via social media. I could say ‘internet’, but truth be told, the internet on its own really didn’t change much except to allow people the opportunity to have a presence online.
Blogging is part of social media, and it was one of the first mediums where creators learned that they could connect with a lot of people and make money at the same time.
