I thought about the time all of this would take, and truthfully, I need to concentrate more on income before I concentrate on trying to get all that modification in. At least I learned that it was possible to do, even if the results are less than perfect so far.

Two reasons. One, I don’t want to have all the advertising show up that I have now with those other pages. Two, because I could only add it as either a post or as a page. As a page, I can’t make it private so it doesn’t show at the top like other pages, and as a post, though I could make that private, I’d still have the issue of all my other ads and stuff showing up. I guess that second big actually fits back into number one. As a regular blog post, it works okay if I’m only advertising one thing, but if I have a sales page with lots of products, that just doesn’t work anymore, as I’d want a more static page.

I did try that one a couple of years ago and couldn’t figure out what to do with it. I may have to give it another shot.

I think, as you say, Wordpress made it this way to keep some kind of control over what the rest of us might be thinking about doing with their software. I don’t have PHP knowledge, though I have broken into a file or two here and there. Overall, they’ve got us. Thing is, I could get it close, but not quite finish, and that’s just not going to work for me. Now, I still could create a page with a totally different look, and that’s not out of the question, but for now, it was an experiment, and at least I’ll know what I might be in for.

Just remember the blog footer and headers, etc all have separate php files, so the page template will call the footer files. It’s how they keep blog post and page creation dynamic in wordpress. The Thesis theme does a better job with letting you great a new page with a differnt column format as your default blog settings. How I don’t know, but I’m sure that why it’s priced the way it is.
