Bloggeries
Posted by Mitch on Dec 18, 2009
Bloggeries is an affiliate program I signed up for a long time ago, last November as a matter of fact, and I posted one banner ad and never thought about it again. But in going through my stuff I realized I had it, and figured I should at least try to do something positive with it.
First, Bloggeries is not only an affiliate program, but a blogging forum. People ask all sorts of questions and get all sorts of help, and I have actually gone there a few times, including earlier this evening where I was sharing some of my time answering some questions of new bloggers.
So, it’s a directory; what’s the affiliate program all about? Some people like to pay for advertising, and if someone clicks on your banner, or links within your posts, goes to the site, and purchases a directory listing, you earn money for that. That’s fairly simple; truthfully, I’m not sure how many people pay for that type of thing, but I do know that the big time marketers are always looking for a way to separate themselves from everyone else, so maybe that’s the market.
Bloggeries is worth a look, even if it’s only to see the forum or to sign up for the affiliate program yourself. As an incentive, they give you $10 just for signing up to market them, but you don’t start getting paid until you’ve generated at least $50. For each sale, you earn $20; that itself is almost worth having a banner listed for it somewhere, I’m thinking.
What I don’t know is if you sign up by clicking on my banner below if I get a piece for that if you’re only looking to sign up as an affiliate, or if I’d get a piece of anything you sell. Doesn’t really matter, I guess. Truthfully, just having another place where I can link my blogs and make my contributions here and there was worth it for me.
And now I’ve rectified another injustice I’d been doing to myself; nice way to close out 2009, eh?

I'm Just Sharing is where I share my thoughts on internet marketing, writing, blogging and many other things. You never know what I'll be posting on. So keep coming back, read, enjoy, and buy! ;)

Interesting and clever way to write a post and capitalize on it by inserting links and a banner.
I’ve never heard of Bloggeries and will make a note of it and check it out.
I don’t know if it’s really worth that much to get listed in a directory by paying for it.
Some directories like DMOZ that are free may give even more valuable link.
The problem with DMOZ though is that it’s not easy to get accepted.
I enjoyed visiting your blog and will check it out again.

And I agree, I’m not sure how many people would buy a link in a directory. However, I think DMOZ has run its course as a viable option for anyone looking to achieve SEO. They just don’t react quickly enough, and there are so many other options out there that I think they’ve run their course.

Judging by that article, you must really be gaining a great reputation for yourself in the ‘webinar’ world.
Great article – your picture looked wonderful even if it was in black and white.

Lorelle also requested that I reply on Bloggeries Forum on her behalf and direct the staff to her post on “I love Your List! I’m Going to Copy it!”
Bloggeries deleted the entitle post from their website, and Rob the administrator sent me a pm where he states that he was within his rights.
As I said. This is not the first time that Rob has infringed on copyright.
FYI: This all happen 2 years ago & can be read on my blog.
I left the link in the website section so you can read it.

Still, that sounds kind of scary. I’ll keep a look out for odd things.

I’m not for ripping off content by any means, unless you give full attribution by copying one or two lines. Nope, that’s not right in any fashion.

I don’t know anything about Bloggeries, but, over the years, I’ve paid to link to my sites in quite a few directories. Of course, not all of the ones I looked at, but quite a few. Some of them weren’t worth it, others produced traffic flow pretty well.
I’m not averse to spending money if it helps me make money, as long as it is ethical and honest.
Rose’s warning would make me cautious about Bloggeries, if I were going to look into it.
Act on your dream!

I’m not sure I was clear in what I was trying to say in my last comment.
You said, “…and purchases a directory listing, you earn money for that. That’s fairly simple; truthfully, I’m not sure how many people pay for that type of thing…”
I was just pointing out that I’ve purchased directory listings in the past and was happy to pay for the ones that brought me traffic and increased my backlinks.
These days, I’m not all that concerned about links, so I probably will not continue to buy links as often as I did in the past.
I have no knowledge of Rose’s allegations and don’t know if they’re true or not, but I just get a bit more cautious when I start hearing that someone associated with an affiliate program is being (or may be) dishonest. Dishonest in one thing usually means dishonest in other things. I’m not saying the owner of Bloggeries is dishonest, just that my “Spidey sense” starts to tingle when I see something like that.
As an example that is unrelated to this issue…
I love VistaPrint. I’ve been ordering products from them for years and I’ve always been 100% satisfied with the cost and quality of what I ordered. For awhile I promoted them through their affiliate program and never made a single sale.
That persuaded me to drop them as an affiliate publisher, but not as a customer.
When I was talking about this somewhere, and it may have been on your blog, someone else pointed out all the problems people were having with some of the post-sale options that VistaPrint offered (as an affiliate). I did some research into it and could see the problem, but I never tried any of those offers, so it never affected me personally.
Still, it made me a bit more cautious of VistaPrint, because a number of other people were having problems.
I read a couple of weeks ago that VistaPrint has canceled their relationship with those companies and isn’t making those post-sales offers. (I read it, but haven’t purchased from them since then and don’t know for sure from personal experience.)
Their decision to sever the relationship made me feel better about them and I don’t feel as cautious as I used to when recommending them.
Does that make any sense?
Being cautious about something doesn’t necessarily mean it doesn’t work or that I would not do it, it just means that I would be more watchful for anything that might arise.
I’m not trying to stop anyone from clicking your Bloggeries links or joining their affiliate program.
(Once again, I know nothing about Bloggeries and their program or their owner. In fact, I probably should not have jumped into that part of the conversation and I’m going to try to back out of it as gracefully as I can right now. (Exiting stage left, crouching and looking over my shoulders, all the way…)
All the best,
JD

Still, at this point it’s not like I’m going to remove the post, and it’s not really like I recommended people use them, just gave some information that some folks might want to take a look at. This, as with anything else, is a buyer beware type of thing.
Of course, when I do recommend something, as you’ve seen, I’m behind it 100%!
