I hate when I’m right. After my best month ever, I mentioned last month that I didn’t think I would sustain it into this month. Well, I was right, but I hadn’t expected it to drop like this. First, here’s the figures:
Adsense – $61.86
Text ads – $19.83
Commission Junction – 70 cents
Chitika – 23 cents
Infolinks – 3 cents
Grand Total – $82.65
Yup, that’s it. Now, I expected most of those to go down, except for the Adsense. It was weird because after a couple of really high months, the first week of August showed me not making a single cent. That didn’t make any sense at all, but other people were saying that August was starting out badly for them also. I think Google did something to take away our revenue, especially since the rest of the month was something spectacular. Oh well, it is what it is.
So, am I expecting anything better for September? Nope, nada, zip. I think Adsense will recover, but otherwise, I just don’t see it. Sure, I’m running that new Commission Junction rotating thing on the side, but I think I need to move that to another site to see if it will do anything there, since two of my other sites are more geared towards sales and such.
Oh yeah, the text ads. I get those from a company that I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned, but ever since this blog lost its PR the number of ads has been going down. If it stays at this level or goes down again, I’ll be dropping this company from this blog and working on a better way to get paid ads of some kind, the kind where I can throw on the nofollow so that the almighty Google will accept me back into their good graces once more. As I’ve said often, I don’t really care all that much about PR, but this was a PR 4 blog before they took it away, and if that will get some other advertisers, who aren’t as savvy on nofollow and dofollow, to think about advertising here, then so be it.
And let me add this; my visitors have increased again. I went up a little more than 16% this month from the previous month, 23% from June. I think it’s because of posting frequency, as I wrote almost every day last month, and I expect to continue that this month, where, in three posts, I’ll write my 500th post on this blog; wow!
So, there you are. Maybe I need to take Mirjam up on the Keyword Academy thing, eh? 🙂

Hi Mitch,
I’ve taken down my Text Link Ads since I lost my PR due to this. I figured for the meagre amt of money I got in return it’s not worth the loss even though we say PR doesn’t mean much. Just to heal the bruised ego I guess haha.

Hi Peter,
I have to admit that I never thought about getting rid of them for that reason. However, I was also moving up in cash. But without the PR, it’s gone down, and if it stays there next month then I’ll get rid of it and move forward. This was a PR 4 blog before they came a’calling, and I’m sure it would be at least PR 3 if I dropped them. But we’ll see how it all goes.
My August adsense earnings went down too. Very disappointing month for me – really hoping September is going to be better.
Matt, September has already started out very well for me, and I hope that pace continues.
Hi Mitch. I am not sure where your visitors are coming from. In Europe, the month of August is the month were everyone goes to vacation. I’m guessing that in other continents as well. Because of this, I think it is reasonable to assume that AdSense clicks will go down, despite your visitors increasing. What I am saying is that normally your loyal readers will probably not click on your AdSense ads because it can cause some problems with Mr G thinking that it is not a legitimate click. AdSense earnings normally comes from organic search.

Hi DiTesco,
Most of my visitors now come from the search engines, and from the U.S.; that wasn’t always the case. And the dip in Adsense money wasn’t what was shocking as much as my not making a single cent in the first week. I mean, every day after that I made at least a little something; seven days in a row seemed, well, out of character.
By the way, thanks for mentioning my blog on your blog. Unfortunately, I can’t figure out how to leave a comment, let alone where to put an email address, so I guess I’ll just have to thank you through my blog instead.
I just love your InfoLinks earnings 🙂 Now seriously i noticed that infolinks has dramatically dropped their CPC lately and used with Adsense can decrease your Adsense CTR.
I would probably get rid of TLA too to get rid of Google’s penalty.
Just my 2 cents..

Thanks NB; I’m seriously thinking about it, but we’ll see how this month goes. At my peak, it was $40 a month, but now,…
By the way, just asking, but I notice you typed in a url instead of allowing CommentLuv to pick up your link. Can I ask why?
Sorry if I missed this, but is this only from your blog, or overall revenue?
Either way, beats me — I didn’t make a penny from my blog…LOL

It’s my overall online revenue, Benham. If I only reported on this blog, we’d all be depressed. lol
Hey it is pretty good income. Keep working hard and you will touch $100 in no time. You don’t do paid review?

Hi Ricky; no, I don’t do paid reviews. Not my style.
Great. carry on happy earnings.

Google took your PR? Now that sucks, almost as much as this months earnings 😉
I still thinks it sucks that Google can just take away a blog’s PR just because they don’t like you making money via means other than Google.
.-= Sire´s last blog ..Why I Don’t Comment On Blogger Blogs =-.
I’m with you on that one, Sire, but we all know the rules when we start going down that road. No matter; if this month’s advertising rate doesn’t pick up, I’ll be dropping it. Then we’ll go back and see what my PR really is.
From what I’ve heard around the traps, once you drop it you will have to petition Google to get your PR back. They don’t just give it back to you.

I know that, Sire; I’ve heard the same thing. But I might wait a month anyway, just to be sure.
Cool, I reckon that will make for an interesting post.

Well Mitch, keep it up. Dont forget this mont was mostly a vacation month so you dont need to worry so much for the next ones. Step by step everything will grow. A little patience and alittle faith.
Cheers
I have a little of both, Nunta; thanks. 🙂
Maybe this month will be better earnings wise?

It already is, Deneil. My Adsense revenue is back up to the levels it should have been.
Nice article. That Cowboys watch is looking pretty good, but not for that price. Maybe if you knock off one of those digits.
Hi caoh,
First, I need to let you know that if I don’t have a real name to call you, I’m going to change the name you use every single time on this blog, as I don’t allow fake names like what you used.
Second, if I could control how much the watch is, I might think about it. Then again, I’d make almost nothing on commission, and that wouldn’t do either. However, what I do with things like this is show what the sites offer that I’m affiliated with, and then folks might decide to go to the site to see if there’s something else they might like instead.
Besides, we Cowboys fans would pay top dollar for good seats at a game; the watch is certainly cheaper than that. 😉
