Archie’s Picking A Bride!

Posted by on May 27, 2009

Okay, another off topic post, but I just had to comment on this one. It seems that our friend Archie Andrews, of the Archie’s comics fame, is soon to decide on a bride, and that it’s going to be between Betty and Veronica.

First, some perspective. Archie Comics have been around for about 68 years now. I’m not that old, but I’ve seen some of the old comic strips. They even had a brief foray into what were known as 8-pagers back in the late 40’s, though it wasn’t the people who owned the Archie comic that wrote them (I saw them in, of all places, Washington D.C. back in 1978).

Anyway, you could say that I grew up with Archie Comics, and the Archie cartoons on Saturday mornings. One of my first albums was the first Archie’s album, with the original Archie’s theme, and of course any child of the 60’s and 70’s remembers the song Sugar Sugar, which went to number one and was both the last number one song of the 60’s and the first number one song of the 70’s; how’s that for trivia? I have that album still, along with the final Archie’s album; I’m not afraid to own up to it.

There has been an Archie’s cartoon series every decade since the 60’s; some haven’t been all that bad, and a few have been abysmal. There’s even a new cartoon that I saw on a TV channel that I didn’t even know existed until a couple of days ago, modernized of course, and it wasn’t bad, though it doesn’t seem to have the full charm of my day; yeah, I’m starting to get old.

Anyway, back to today. It seems the strip has decided that it’s time for Archie to grow up. So, they’re going to move him up five years or so, make him a college graduate ready to get married, and one of the two young ladies in the picture is supposed to be who he’s going to choose.

Frankly, I’m stunned by this development, and I’m not sure why. I haven’t seen an Archie comic book in years, and as I said, just noticed there’s a new cartoon. I think I’m trying to hold onto my big of nostalgia, something that’s pretty much stayed the same since I was a kid. Nope, I’m not ready for this.

But it’s going to happen; or is it? I see two possible scenarios. One, it’ll be just a dream; two, he’ll pick someone else. However, if it does go through, I’m putting my money on Betty (the blonde); who’s holding the bets?

I’ll take that bet and, if Denver makes it to the finals, I’ll take them too. Who you taking for the Stanley Cup finals? Pizza or calzone on each bet. 🙂

Well, don’t you still owe me for something, or has my “some-timers” kicked in again? No matter; I’ll take Pittsburgh.

‘Ditto’ to your entire post bar the betting part. I am not a betting man, leave alone being a bookie!

You are being emotional about Betty! I think that Archie is a logical fellow who will marry for money, regret later and get Betty on the rebound!

Well, Rummuser, turns out you were right; he went with Veronica! I guess money does trump all, eh? lol

I think he’ll marry Betty. Veronica’s waay too spoiled to marry someone who’s not rich.

So far it looks like we’ve lost, DeAnna, although Archie’s changed his mind in the past, so we’ll see.

So, no Archie movie? Personally I’ve always thought that Veronica was HOT, even though she is one shallow woman. 😀

I doubt there will be an Archie movie, and I’m thinking that’s a good thing because they’d only mess it up like they’ve messed up other cartoon movie characters.

Veronica fan, eh? lol

What, Cartoons can’t be hot? 😉

Now, now Mitch, let’s not bring Jessica Rabbit into it. 😀

I could have gone Betty Boop, but I’m not sure how you’d react to her big head. lol

I’m going for Veronica. I’m sick of blonds having all the fun— with all the men—all the time!

Veronica actually won already, but in this case, the brunette is the evil, spoiled one, so it possibly won’t do so well. lol

I’m glad to see Archie is still around. I remeber reading the comic my grandma had.

I used to love Archie comics, Neela, and I still see the digests in the grocery store, so I knew they were still around.
