Dennis, mine was really rhetorical, and then you answered it with another rhetorical and I got confused. Since I do SEO work when it comes to websites, I know the importance of it all, but when it comes to a blog, it's obviously a much different sort of thing. Unless I used the same search term in every single post I wrote, I'm not sure the front page of my blog will ever rank higher than a 3, and unless I do something like that in most of my posts I expect I'll end up the same way.

It's quite rare to see someone with a blog having a rank higher than a 4, though I've seen them, and it's even more rare to see someone have a specific post ranked higher than a 1, although I've seen that also. I'm talking norms, not absolutes. It's just not as easy to do as it is with websites because websites are static, whereas a blog post, even talking about one topic, is a bit more fluid.

So, it's not that one doesn't try, but I don't think one concerns themselves as much with trying to rank a page as they do with hoping those search terms give them a competitive shot on the search engines.

It wasn't really rhetorical..unless yours was lol.

You were wondering if it was worth it, and I say yes; IF you really do want your inner pages to rank, why wait to start?

Or did I miss something...

Yeah, but I confused myself. You were asking a rhetorical question, I see now, while I was trying to answer a literal one; I've gotta keep a handle on that. I may need more sleep (slacker; pffht!) ;-P

I'm not sure which question you're asking as far as waiting. I'm using AIO right now; are you saying to drop it and move to something new?

It takes considerably longer for a single post page to rank, if ever. 99% is links in.

Actually John, it's good to know that's what the purpose of the plugin was for. As you see in one of my comments to Dennis, for years I'd been using one of the other two programs to do my keyword additions, and thought AIO-SEO would be a major step forward. It does allow me to write descriptions, of which I'm not sure if either of the other programs did because I never tried.

I think, generally, that there is a basic misunderstanding of what SEO plugins can do for WordPress blogs.

It's my understanding that all the AIO-SEO plugin does is (1) move the title of the post to the left of the blog's name in the page title.

(2) It gives us the ability to create tags (keywords) for each individual post and uses them to populate the keywords metatag.

(3) We can write a persuasive description of the post that will be converted into the description metatag.

The purpose is to make each page a little (with emphasis on "little") more likely to rank better with the search engines.

Regarding page rank. The page rank that we see on our browsers is not the same as the page rank that Google uses internally, according to at least one of their blogs.

Personally, I'm not so sure that page rank is an important metric these days, compared to what it was when Google first came online. I think they are looking at much more than that, now.

But, if we want an indication of how much Google likes us, then the visible page rank may give us some warm cuddlies.

The plugin I'm using on my browser (don't remember which one right now) is being a bit flaky this morning. A few minutes ago, it was showing PR of 2 for this post. Now, it's showing N/A.

Sometimes I wonder why I even have that browser plugin, because I really don't pay much attention to it.

When I'm writing a new article on my blog, I almost always add tags for the AIO-SEO plugin. If it's an important post, I may even write a description. Otherwise, I'm happy to let it use the title I enter when I'm writing the post and the first part of the first paragraph of the post for the description.

Those are the two places I try to put the keywords for that post, anyway. Whether it makes any difference for them to be added to the keywords and description metatags is completely unknown to me. I'm not all that sure that Google pays any attention to them and most of the other search engines really don't matter in terms of sending many visitors.

(I need to get another cup of coffee and wake up more before I write anything else. I hope I'm not just rambling this morning.)

Act on your dream!

I'm starting to wonder if any of them really work, to tell you the truth. I mean, you saw what I wrote above; only one of my posts has anything other than "unranked", and that page is a 0. Im thinking that blogs aren't all that great for page rank at all, other than the main page, which, luckily enough, is still riding that 3.

I use the Platinum SEO plugin and I'm not even sure if it works. As far as I'm concerned I am happy in thinking that it takes some of the work out of SEO for me, whether or not it does, (shrug of shoulders) who cares as long as I don;t have to worry about it.

It all has to do with my blogging experience. If I have to think too much about something and it's going to ruin the way I feel about my blogs then I'm not going to worry about it.
