30 Questions About Music I Like

This post is a bit of fun, as the British like to say. It started with this guy Lamarr Wilson who mentioned that he saw a Tumblr post of someone (he mentions the guy but didn’t link to it) who had 30 questions on music and that he wanted to answer some of them for his video post. He tackled 10 of them, doing a bit of performing for each of them as well. Then Brian Hawkins of Hot Blog Tips sent me a video of a lady named Tomeka Haywood who did a video response to Lamarr’s video.

I thought about doing a video as well, since I’ve been doing a lot of videos lately, but decided that I’d rather write down my responses to all 30 questions instead for two reasons. One, if I performed or even talked about all 30 of these questions that could take awhile, and I don’t feel like only answering the ones I like necessarily. Two, I’m not performing any of them, thus why do it as a video? I’ll get better use out of doing it as a blog post; at least I hope so.

This is the kind of thing that bloggers can do to have fun every once in awhile and add a bit of content to their site. Some might say it takes away from one’s niche but come on… what’s the niche of this blog anyway? So, here we go, with explanations if I’m in the mood, but expect a lot of songs involving Michael Jackson here.

The One, Elton John

3: A song that reminds you of summertime

Dancing Machine, Jackson Five (came out summer of 1975)

Shake Your Body To The Ground, Jacksons

A relatively new song, Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield

  1. Oh, you suckered me into this one. Love these kinds of things. You’ve got a nice selection of tunes listed here. Poor “Feelings”–such a despised song that once seemed so loved.

I’m going to do this sometime in the summer–it’ll make a good summertime post. I’ll link to this and mention you when I do it. I’ve copied the questions, but deleted your answers so they don’t influence my answers.

    This will be fun.

    Thanks
    Lee

    1. Good deal Lee; I’ll be checking it out when it does come through. As for that song… I hated it back then and I’ve stuck with hating it. Course I love You Light Up My Life by Debby Boone and most people would run from the room if it came on again. lol

      1. I’m sure you probably remember “The Gong Show” on TV. Nearly every day someone sang “Feelings” and got gonged. It was a running gag on the show.

  2. Mitch,
This was a FUN read! Let me throw you in a couple of mine:

#3: Welcome to Miami (Will Smith)
#4: Love is Here Now You’re Gone (Diana Ross and the Supremes)
#11: Africa (Toto) LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!
    #29: Superfly (Curtis Mayfield)
#30: Beauty’s Only Skin Deep (Temptations)

    1. Beverley, I adore Toto’s Africa!

Btw, I can’t see how to post a comment in your blog.

      1. Hi Val,

You just add a comment in the comment box under “Add a comment”

  3. Wow I wouldn’t picture myself that you like Tom Waits, I am such a huge fan of him, he is a musical genius..although I have to admit it that alcohol and drugs have played an important and significant role in his career…

    1. Well B (your name’s too confusing for me to type), you probably don’t know me well enough to know my musical tastes, but suffice it to say that I was a music major in college so my tastes can vary. And I tend to believe that without at least the alcohol some of his songs might never have come about, such as The Piano Has Been Drinking. lol

  4. Mitch,

I liked your post so much and decided to do my own version. Hope you’ll mske it over and respond.

    1. Great stuff Bev, other than that Foxy song; always hated that one. lol I can’t figure out how to comment on that new format, otherwise I’d have left a comment there as well; help?

  5. I’m not one for memes in my blog but I might do this one some time for ‘a bit of fun’ as we Brits say. Lol!

I never thought I’d see an Aerosmith song on a list of yours!

  6. You’re better at this than I am Mitch, I could never come up with songs for all of those questions; I simply don’t have the memory for it. Even though I am familiar with most of those songs, I wouldn’t be able to come up with titles, much less the artist. I didn’t realize you did karaoke. Any chance we can get a video of that someday on your YouTube channel?

    1. Brian, I don’t do karaoke, though I’ve been to the one club twice; I don’t see myself ever going again. However, I thought you knew I used to be a professional singer for weddings; I’ve certainly written about that here, and I was also a songwriter, sharing some of my copyrighted material here as well years ago. I’ve got some skills other than just writing, though most of them are rusty at this juncture.

  7. Hey Mitch,

Thanks for sharing with us these lovely songs. I am a music enthusiast and to be honest, I like the choices you made since majority of it is what I also like to hear. Come to think of it, making such a list of questions is good for my musical evaluation.

  8. I just wanted to thank you again. I enjoyed your list! Wow you did all 30! Very Cool!! I also love the song I Love The Nightlife.

  9. I like the music you like. You’ve wrote another excellent post Mitch. I must admit that I’ve liked different kinds of music during different periods of my life. Never been too much of a fan of any band, just some songs that usually are less known from not so popular bands, that usually perform life somewhere in a bar or restaurant.

    1. Carl, I think if I had to answer this questionnaire every 5 years half of my answers would change, but some are hard wired into my psyche. I doubt there’s no one that doesn’t have at least one song they love.

  10. I like the music you like. You’ve composed another incredible post Mitch. I should concede that I’ve preferred various types of music amid various times of my life
