The Launch For My New Ebook Is Closer

Posted by Mitch on Apr 18, 2008

The last post talked about my new ebook, Using Your Website As A Marketing Tool. I’m now sending out the second letter, and I’ve added a little twist to the copy on the site, kind of a giveaway of service. If that doesn’t get more people to stop by, then I don’t know what will.

To be fair, the page has received a lot of hits, for which I’m grateful. But I want more, just like any other marketer. The initial week of the sale will show the price of the ebook very favorably; it will go up some after that.

I hope you take a quick look, and refer others; what can it hurt?

Using Your Website As A Marketing Tool

Posted by Mitch on Apr 16, 2008

I’ve written a new ebook titled Using Your Website As A Marketing Tool. Going to that page will allow you to put your name on a mailing list for the launch, which will be on Monday. Who’s the book for? Well, check out the page!

Actually, what I’m doing is known as a product launch sequence. You set up the first page, and then you try to build the interest after that. You also send out a series of letters, trying to build up momentum. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to make some kind of offer on the back end that will help encourage sales in some fashion.

In the book “Multiple Streams of Internet Income” by Robert G. Allen, he demonstrates the process by showing how, in his first letter, he mentioned the book he was marketing and telling some things about his background. In the next letter, he changed things up by making an offer for a lucky winner to get something special from him, with a few other prizes for runner’s up. In the third letter he set up a survey where he asked the people on his mailing list some questions to keep them engaged, then reinforced it in his fourth letter.

Letter five was launch day, and of course he made a lot of money. Well, I’m not going five letters, and though I’d like to make a nice bit of change, I’m no Robert Allen at this point of my career. Still, I figure I’ll do the launch tactic, and we’ll see where it goes.

In any case, please check out the link for the book, and pass it around to anyone you think might be interested. Thanks; happy marketing.

Reviews Of Everything

Posted by Mitch on Apr 12, 2008

I have another site that I’d like to introduce you to. It’s called Reviews Of Everything, and it’s a site I set up where I review almost anything that hits my fancy. Thus far I’ve got about 75 or so reviews on the page, and I’ll be adding more as time goes on.

There are probably two questions about the site. The first is why have a site that reviews things in the first place. After all, isn’t that what a blog is for? Well, there are a few short answers to this one. First, I can write longer pieces on things than I would want to write here. It’s not really the purpose of a blog for long, drawn out comments, though some people do it that way. The reviews on my other site can run anywhere from 300 to 1,000 words; who’d stick around if I continually wrote 1,000 words here? The second is that it offers another marketing opportunity because, unlike a blog, those posts are always only two clicks away from being seen at the most, where as a post I write on a blog may be pages away in less than a month if I’m very active. Third, because I had someone say to me that I should start a site where I give my opinion on things, and I might make some money off it; good enough for me.

The second question is why is it a .info instead of a .com. That’s not my fault. The person who owns the .com has been squatting on it (so I say) for a long while now, because there’s nothing up on the site. It was supposed to expire in February, and I had high hopes that it wouldn’t be renewed, but it was. The owner always has first right to renewal. I hope this person puts something up one day, because it’s really disconcerting that he or she is wasting away my opportunity.

Enough said. Why not stop by and take a look around. I have lots to say.

Rich Jerk

Posted by Mitch on Apr 10, 2008

Okay, my turn to talk about the Rich Jerk internet sales program.

Truthfully, if you’re just starting out, I would recommend your checking this out, and I’d also recommend spending the $10 or so for his ebook. It gives you a lot of information for a relatively small book, and it’s a nice start towards the process of making money online. Also, one thing they did that no one else has ever done is someone called me to ask me how I enjoyed the book and if I had any other questions regarding marketing. The guy spent 45 minutes with me; my friend actually got to talk to them 3 separate times. All for that small investment initially; couldn’t be mad at that.

Now the other side. The emails you receive are kind of rude; that’s where the jerk part comes in. It’s an interesting marketing strategy, and obviously not a bad one because this site has proven to be really popular. They also produce videos that teach you some interesting ways to make money. There was one that I didn’t particularly care for, but in general it’s pretty helpful stuff, and it’ll at least give you some ideas of other things to try.

So, check out the link, think about it, and, as I said, for the price of the book, it wasn’t such a bad deal. Give it a shot, and let me know what you think.

Excalibur Gifts & Cutlery

Posted by Mitch on Apr 9, 2008

Excalibur Gifts & Cutlery is a misnomer, of sorts. Sure, they have lots of cutlery, very fine kitchen items that would look great in any kitchen. But they have so much more; I guess that’s where the gifts part comes in.

Most of the items are geared towards men. There are fancy knives, lighters, manicure and pedicure kits, binoculars, flashlights, multitools (these are all-in-one knives that have other tools as a part of them) and game sets such as chess and backgammon. They even have swords; there aren’t lots of places that sell swords. And little miniature cars and flasks; lots of great guy stuff that we may not know what to do with, but we want it anyway.

Take a look at this sampling of products, and maybe you’ll find something you like. It’s pretty neat stuff.

The Pregnant Man

Posted by Mitch on Apr 4, 2008

Last week, I sent a link to a news story to all my friends talking about a pregnant man. One of those friends sent me a different link indicating that it might be a hoax, which was fine with me.

Then I saw previews that indicated this pregnant man was going to be on Oprah, and I was stunned; so much for hoax. Or was it; after all, though the show was being broadcast on April 2nd, it could have still been an April Fools prank, right?

Nope, it was real. I knew it was truly real when the man came out on Oprah’s stage and she felt his belly. And, from that point on, I had to start to deal with it all.

Of course, we all learned that this was a transgendered male, who was actually a gorgeous woman, beauty queen, Miss Teen Hawaii at some point in his past, who always wanted to be male. And he went through some of the operations to become male, but not the genitalia, and not the reproductive organs, because he said he still wanted to someday have children, even though he wanted to be male, and said the choice of wanting to give birth had nothing whatsoever to do with whether he was male or female.

That one, of course, is hard to reconcile, being male my whole life. The idea of giving birth has never crossed my mind, and, not being a transgender male, that would make sense. This guy, named Thomas, did stop taking testosterone for two years before attempting to get pregnant, as his wife (yup, he’s legally married), was unable to conceive. Something else I can’t do, stop taking testosterone, nor will taking estrogen give me the ability to get pregnant.

Still, once I got my mind around it, I don’t have a problem with it. I can’t say I’m enthusiastic about it, nor would I become a champion for every transgendered male to start having children across the board, but hey, to each his or her own, right? It’s their choice and their life, and it’s not illegal. Freaky to me, maybe, but that’s my problem.

WISE Conference report

Posted by Mitch on Apr 2, 2008

My friend Jill Hurst-Wahl went to the WISE (Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship) conference in Syracuse yesterday, and wrote a report about it on their blog, which she posted here.

There were some high powered presenters at this event. Maxine Clark is the founder of Create-a-Bear, which is found in many malls across the country. Nancy Cantor is the chancellor of Syracuse University. Susan Taylor is the former editor in chief of Essence Magazine.

I thought about going to this event, even though it was mainly for women, but decided not to go at the last minute. To me, it seemed more important for the women to have their special day, to motivate them to break out and do great things, rather than for me to crash the party for whatever my own needs might be. I’m glad Jill had a good time; maybe next year for me.
