Bill Gates No Longer The World’s Richest Man
Posted by Mitch on Mar 7, 2008
As the headline says, Bill Gates is no longer the world’s richest man; do you think he’s crying any? Not only is he not number one, he’s actually fallen to number three behind Warren Buffett (isn’t the stock market supposed to be in flux?) and Carlos Slim Helu (who?), whose company provides web services to at least 16 countries.
Gates would possibly still be the richest man if Microsoft hadn’t tried to take over Yahoo, which made stocks in both companies drop. Still, at $58 billion dollars, and knowing that he’s switched into philanthropic mode rather than mogul mode, Gates is still living large, and that’s what I aspire to do. Of course, it doesn’t help that we’re around the same age and I’ve started later,… just makes it a goal I have to achieve in a shorter period of time. But I’m motivated, and that’s why I need to market more.
So, what do you think about what’s below?
Amp and “Push It”
Posted by Mitch on Mar 6, 2008
During the Super Bowl, Amp Energy Drink had this commercial that featured the song “Push It” by Sa;t ‘n Pepa. For some reason, that was the only time I’ve seen the commercial, which made me wonder if the company spent so much money on the Super Bowl that they couldn’t afford to show it again, or whether the commercial falls flat for some reason, or whether most people wondered what the heck Amp was (I didn’t know myself).
I’m not sure, but loving that YouTube has it, I wanted to share it here, then hear your comments on it:
How Online Affiliate Marketing Works
Posted by Mitch on Mar 5, 2008
I’m glad to get comments on my blog any time I can get them. This then gives me a chance to see what’s on the minds of people and address them either by commenting back or, in this case, writing a post specific to the issues.
In this case, I’ve received a few messages regarding one of the companies that I market as an affiliate. Truth be told, I don’t know all that much about the company except that the things they make look very nice when you look at the pictures. The other truth to be told is that, quite often, many affiliate marketers don’t know a lot about the things they market. That’s because we can market so many things that it’s impossible to know about all of them. The one thing I’ve yet to do is accept paid marketing, though that’s not beyond the realm of possibility if this blog ever grows its readership to a level where I might actually make some real money off it. For instance, there’s a blog at a site called johnchow.com where he accept paid advertising, and makes a heck of a lot of money, and even showed his income report for the month of February; wow!
Anyway, I market close to 75 different companies and product lines, and I’ll admit that I don’t know a lot about most of them. There are some I do know about, who I’d stand behind no matter what anyone said, but others might make me want to check into them more, which I’m going to do on the one company that was mentioned, because it won’t do me much good if overall reviews are trash on someone, right? Now, every company makes someone mad, and that’s to be expected, but when a lot of people jump on the bandwagon, like they did with Comp USA, well, you know it’s time to stand up and take notice.
So, there you go. Online affiliate marketing is different than regular marketing because in regular marketing you only work for one company, you take time to build relationships with a few long term clients, and you hit the phones and cold call to try to gain new clients. Online, you try to set something up where, hopefully, you entice people to at least take a moment to look at something you’re advertising, and then hope they’ll go to the site, through your link, and check out other products that company may offer. But I make money only when people buy things; I don’t know the company president, I don’t know any of the management working at the companies, I don’t know any of the sales clerks, and I don’t know where a lot of them are located. But, if asked, if you can’t get satisfaction after a sale, I will name the company who I contract with to be allowed to market these items, and, since I know this particular company is definitely high quality, and wouldn’t want to be associated with someone whose products were substandard, a complaint to them might help you get your issues resolved. No promises, but I’m sure if enough people contacted them they’d be on alert.
So there you go. Now, from a company I do know something about, take a look at this:
Chaka Used To Be Every Woman
Posted by Mitch on Mar 1, 2008
My cousin Kevin was the first person to ever tell me he was in love with Chaka Khan. I couldn’t blame him for that, as I thought she was really hot also. She seemed to be the type of woman who would be trouble if you even thought about bringing her home to meet your parents, but you wouldn’t care anyway. Nowadays people see Chaka looking a little bit less than the very sexy person she used to be, and the young ones wonder what we were drinking back in the day. Well folks, to see it is to believe it, so here she is, from 1978:
What The Heck Am I Dreaming About?
Posted by Mitch on Mar 1, 2008
When I started this blog, I said it was going to be many things, but I specifically mentioned it was going to be a personal and sharing blog. Today, it’s that, because I have to get some things off my mind.
First, I just came back from a long walk outside in the cold and snow. I went for a walk, not because I wanted to exercise, but because I had to walk off some frustration and disappointment. My college basketball team, the Syracuse Orangemen, had just lost an embarrassing game, and I was stunned. Felt like I couldn’t breathe, so I went for a walk to clear my mind. While walking, I was wondering why I seem to have so much passion for some of my favorite sports teams and not the same kind of passion for, well, almost anything else. What is it that makes us want to live so much through our favorite teams, or movies, or music, and not as much for ourselves sometimes?
While walking, I also thought about some of my recurring dreams lately. Every once in awhile I have recurring dreams, but not usually four at the same time. Sometimes a recurring dream is easy to figure out. For instance, one of the dreams I keep having is directly related to playing Scrabulous on Facebook (the online version of Scrabble that the original company might make Facebook remove) against a few people right now. My mind keeps trying to come up with different words, and I see the grid in front of me, and I always seem to be missing a letter somewhere; just like the real game.
Another dream seems to be somewhat related to Scrabulous is that there are conversations going on, sometimes mine, sometimes others without me participating, and there’s a rule which says that a person must pull one word out of their sentence, come up with another word instead, and then state the sentence again. In essence, it’s about communications and how we relate to each other, and I guess the premise is that sometimes we say the first thing that pops into our minds, but we may want a mulligan so we can try to better define what we mean, and that’s what this exercise is all about. I say “guess” because no one has explained the rules in the dream, it’s just something we do.
The third dream is about this one particular floor in some office building. What office building? I have absolutely no idea. However, over the course of a few days, I keep ending up on this floor at some point, only working in the very first dream, and people keep telling me that so-and-so can’t know I’ve been there, yet everyone is willing to go out of their way to help me along. Last night’s dream actually had Tom Cruise working for this same company, and he and I were interacting with each other as though we’d known each other forever. Only he wasn’t a movie star, but just some guy who happened to work on this floor. What work they do is beyond me, but every once in awhile someone starts talking some very complicated computer stuff, and I keep thinking I must know it because why would I be remembering it in the dream? Of course, I can’t remember the specifics when I wake up, usually because I’m going right back to sleep.
And now comes dream number four, and this is odd. Four nights in a row, my dad has appeared in my dreams, and in each dream he’s been in a hospital or medical facility of some kind, each time worse off than the time before. Thing is, my dad passed away in 2002, and we’re nowhere near the anniversary, and after the first dream he hasn’t been able to communicate with me, so I have absolutely no idea as to what’s going on. I keep trying to think if something happened in the last week that’s connected to my dad in some fashion, but I’m coming up with nothing.
So there you go. Four non-related recurring dreams, and a bad beat in basketball. This has to be one of the strangest blog entries in history, and I’m trying to figure out how to close it off with some kind of product. This is the best I have for the day:
I'm Just Sharing is a blog about sharing my thoughts about internet marketing and other things. Read, enjoy, and buy! :-)
