Turn The World Around - Harry Belafonte
Posted by Mitch on Jan 30, 2008
I love almost anything Muppets. I’ll admit that I didn’t get into the Fraggles, but if Kermit and his buddies were involved, it was all good.
Of course, like most things, we all have our favorite stuff, and one thing that stands out in my mind was an awesome performance by Harry Belafonte that closed out one show, called Turn The World Around. It was such an amazing performance that not only did they continue playing the song throughout the closing credits, which never happened in any other show, but Harry Belafonte performed the song at Jim Henson’s funeral. Now that’s a powerful song.
So, I post it here for your enjoyment and inspiration; if you can’t feel anything from this one, you have no emotions.
Simply Tapestries

Simply Tapestries has some of the coolest wall hangings I’ve ever seen. I’ve always been impressed with stuff like this, and every once in awhile, I’ll buy something like this and bring it home to my wife; she loves these things also.
The link above takes you to one of my sites first, where you can view some examples of their products, though, on one of my other posts here, you’ll see a sample of one of their tapestries also. And these items aren’t all that expensive either, especially when compared to the Ultra Diamonds post I made some time ago.
Simply Tapestries; this is good stuff, and I hope you like what you see.
Dreaming Of Sweets
Posted by Mitch on Jan 26, 2008
I was having what I consider a wonderful dream. I was in a restaurant for some event, and it was kind of a buffet, but with a major difference. First you walked by a candy bar, which had all sorts of different candies behind glass. When I got up there I saw all these sweets that I knew I would love, including oversized candy corn, chocolates with mint in them, and all sorts of other things that I know are favorites of mine. And my wife was distracted, so I could have as much of all of it as I could pile on my plate before I got to the real food, and it was all free. However, there was this one guy already there, doing what I planned on doing, and he was taking forever. I started thinking there has to be something else that can be done to move things along, and suddenly, I woke up.
So there I am, laying on my bed, exhausted, overheated, upset that it was only a dream, wanting to go back to sleep, when suddenly I’m smelling chocolate; at least I think it’s chocolate. That’s the type of thing that would perk me up, so I opened my eyes and looked around; nothing. I sniffed the air; nothing. I then closed my eyes again and tried to get back to sleep, and started smelling chocolate again; what the hey? This time I lifted my head and body and looked all around again; nothing.
Time to investigate. I walked around the room first; nothing. I walked into the living room; nothing. I walked through the house, and not only was there no chocolate, there was no wife; she was in the basement working out. I wondered what the heck it could be, then something said to smell my hands. I did, and there it was; this sweet smell of peppermint and chocolate candy of some sort.
Then I remembered; I’d gone to what they call the Farmer’s Market this morning with my wife, and I had tried this fancy hand lotion that was a combination of peppermint and aloe with shea butter; not sure why it makes me think chocolate, but it did. Obviously, I’m still thinking chocolate, so that’s what I’m sharing with you below; what a life I have!
My Razr
Posted by Mitch on Jan 23, 2008
My wife and I have new cell phones. I’m not one who uses my phone all that often, and the one I had lasted four years. It might have lasted even longer, but somehow it got damaged, and it wouldn’t accept the power cords anymore.
So, it was time to go out and buy new phones, and, being someone who hates having new technology that my wife doesn’t have (not counting my computer), we went to the “new AT&T” store (hey, we do what we have to do) looking for something new. And I was immediately overwhelmed; definitely haven’t kept up with all technology, that’s for sure. The things phones can do now; wow!
Anyway, we walked out, over an hour later, with the Motorola Razr phones, which are pretty nice. I got a black one, my wife got the pink (which she’s telling everyone is fuchsia). We didn’t have to get a new 2 year plan, which is a change from the past, but we did have to get the “free” text messaging and internet for a month in order to qualify for rebates. We’ve gotten used to the text messaging, and it’s possible we might keep it, but the jury is out on the internet thing; how does one calculate those bytes and the like anyway?
They seem like nice phones; that’s the best I have. So, since I bought it, I’m advertising it; makes sense, right?
Motivation Or Inspiration
Posted by Mitch on Jan 22, 2008
Every once in awhile, we all need a little bit of motivating or inspiring for one reason or another. There are places all over the internet to read a little bit of something about it. Here are 5 links to something about motivation or inspiration that I’d like to share:
So You’re Depressed; Now What?
And there you go. Now, get motivated and happy!
Martin Luther King Jr, The Finale
Posted by Mitch on Jan 21, 2008
No advertising today. In the news today, scholars were saying that the only thing most people know about Dr. King is the “I Have A Dream” speech he gave at the Washington Monument in 1963. Obviously, he was so much more than that, and his full legacy can’t be questioned. However, the thing that always made the most impact to me was his final speech, the day before he was assassinated. I remembered hearing the speech as a kid of 8, having it not really mean all that much to me at the time, but making me cry the next day. I wasn’t sure why them, but I know how; because it seems like he called it.
So, here’s that final speech, April 3rd, 1968; happy birthday, Dr. King:
Will Someone Tell Britney To Stay Home!
Posted by Mitch on Jan 16, 2008
You know, I’m probably going to hate myself in the morning, but I just have to comment on this train wreck that’s known as Britney Spears and all the vultures it seems to have accumulated along the way.
Can’t someone just call her up and tell her to stay home? Better yet, move to the desert or the grasslands just to get away from the madness. I mean, it doesn’t matter what I’m watching: E.T., Access Hollywood, the regular news,… this stuff is everywhere. And the press is in a frenzy. Just tonight, for instance, we heard about her trying to go to court and leaving because there were just too many press people around. We heard about this restaurant she went to and what she ate. We saw pictures of her being zipped up in a dress. We heard her speaking in her little Southern accent, then switching to a British accent. And we heard the TV announcer call her a “pop tart”.
I’m not going to hate on her, because it just seems obvious that she’s having some sort of mental breakdown. People are comparing her to Anna Nicole Smith; Smith wasn’t crazy, she was mistreated medically. Britney needs to have a nanny, period, take over her life and guide her into some good decisions, or she needs to take the advice of Dr. Phil and get some serious treatment. This stuff is getting out of hand.
Thing is, her last album wasn’t all that bad. I actually reviewed the album Blackout on one of my other sites and gave it a fairly positive review. This shows she hasn’t lost it totally, but that’s not going to get her life back into focus.
People want to put fault on someone, either the mother or K-Fed (no, I couldn’t go the entire post without mentioning the “himbo”), but when mental illness is involved, there is no fault. Someone help this woman, and soon; we have an election to get back to.
Marketing And The NFL
Posted by Mitch on Jan 12, 2008
It’s a big football weekend, as we work our way towards the Super Bowl. Right now, I”m watching the Green Bay Packers beating the Seattle Seahawks in a snowstorm; I’m used to that sort of thing where I live.
The NFL has become the number one professional sports organization in the United States. It’s all about marketing. No sport hits harder, runs faster, or has as much time to be scrutinized as football. It’s fairly amazing because the players are also the lowest paid overall when compared to other sports. That’s what happens when you have 45 players on a team versus 12 for basketball or even 25 for baseball.
Still, it’s all about marketing. Who remembers just how popular baseball was in the early 70’s because they had the better marketing machine, even though most teams were eliminated from the playoff chase by the beginning of September? And the thing is, you still see all the faces of baseball players; football has done it even with the faces of their players hidden.
So, who wants some football gear? Yeah, I’m a Cowboys fan, but they have this stuff for other teams also. Take a look at what’s below:
Stout Hearted Men
Posted by Mitch on Jan 1, 2008
It’s New Years Day, and there’s all sorts of marathons on TV, along with some college football games that, for some reason, this year offer absolutely no appeal to me. So, I’m watching a different type of marathon on Turner Classic Movies. In this case, it’s the three movies titled That’s Entertainment; I’m presently watching the second one.
Anyway, they just showed a song from the movie New Moon from 1940, where there was this classic song they performed called Stout Hearted Men. As I was watching, it reminded me of the first time I actually had heard the song, many, many years later. It was on an episode of Wonder Years with Fred Savage, where a group of male chorus boys had found a new spirit when one of their own turned out to have a magnificent voice, until one tragic evening. It made me laugh until I almost cried, and hurt my stomach, so I’m sharing it with you here:
Stout Hearted Men; I wonder what the Muppets could have done with this. I hope this little bit of fun helps launch you into a very happy and wonderful new year.
